I came across some talk in a different forum on color correcting images using a script for Photoshop CS, and a RAW image of a GretagMacbeth Color Chart. I decided to give it a whirl and took an image of the chart..

I followed the instruction on the web page at the link given here. (Also the link to download the script. Remember to save the file inside the little " " guys so windows does not save it as a txt file.) After I ran the script, I got this information.

Then applied it to the chart...

I also emailed Tom about how to use this information and he replied with the following, "The results for the calibration tab in ACR (Shadow Tint, Red Hue, Red Sat, ... Blue Sat.) should be generally useful for any shot you take except tungsten light. For tungsten light, you should probably shoot the target again under tungsten and create a calibration specifically for that light. The "adjust" tab settings (e.g. White balace, Exposure, etc.) are only applicable to that particular capture of the Macbeth chart and can be thrown away. You'll need to adjust these on an image-by-image basis for real shots you process in ACR." I then opened up a previous image....

Applied the calibration settings to it and said WOW! If anyone else tries this could you post your results and images? Thomas

Hope it is not too bad, but JPG compression takes a little something from the images above. The first image of the sunset is out of the camera no white point set. Hope this information has as much value to you as it has for me! TMG

That looks a useful tool. I've been struggling with colour calibration and I'm not sure I want to shell out on a hardware calibration tool just yet (maybe one day). Now I just need to find a "GretagMacbeth Color Chart" :|

You could start here if you want a 8x11 one... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=325035&is=REG Or how about a "Mini" business card sized one? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=325036&is=REG
