Try the Poser4.03 patch instead. If you're on cable modem you should have something like zonealarm on your system. It's free and an invaluable tool. I go into it the first time poser tries to go out and disable the ability to go to the web. Problem solved. All it is doing when it is accessing is trying to make sure you aren't running more than one copy at a time on multiple computers. It doesn't know the difference between the web and your lan, it's just looking for another instance. I am a paranoid old woman and I updated, and I'm glad I did, solved a lot of problems. Ok zone alarm is a good idea, forgot that i could disable its outgoing seek. will try the patch 4.0.3<<< You're running a cable modem with no firewall!? Please. please install that firewall. You are just asking for a disaster. Think of it as playing Russian roulette 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The odds are very much against you. ZoneAlarm is free and available at quite a few online libraries. And before you install ZoneAlarm, run a solid trojan detection program. You are probably getting probed and targeted a half dozen or more times a day. Most are the harmless wanderings of "script kiddies." Some might not be. Just a piece of advice from a fellow member of the community. Take care.
If you have the original cd you don't need to worry about it, even if it doesn't work it shouldn't delete any of your stuff that you've created. Hell, I was so paranoid I copied my whole poser subdirectory to another drive....lol I think you will be fine though. It makes a backup of the old stuff. Make sure you still have any patches that you've already used handy, just in case you do re-install. Oh, and here's a tip, back up your registry first, name the backup Poser00. I would copy any original characters elsewhere though, just to be on the safe side. Also, if you can't find your serial number, (I put mine in the manual, learned that lesson the hard way!) Go to your Poser program and write your serial number down. I made a notebook with all my important numbers in it so I don't have to hunt them down anymore. Good luck, I think you'll be ok. Oh, don't write the serial number on the CD, someone did that with their hash CD and I guess it messed it up...he had to get another one from Hash. Marque

Hi I just reinstalled poser after a few months of not having it on my system. I go to apply the poser 4.02 patch and i get an error that says Invalid version of poser and then it stops installing. :( The only figures i installed were the Vicky one and the clothing pack. Any Ideas as to how to get the patch to install? Imaginos system is win 98 with plenty of ram.
