Hi anyone and everyone. I trialled the Vue 4 demo a year ago before buying Vue 5 a few months ago. I've been having several problems which I hope someone can help me with.
  1. Has anyone else had instability problems with the latest release of Vue 5? After automatically updating, my Vue models started crashing all the time and some files wouldn't even open. I had to uninstall it and re-install from the original disk, now two updates old.

  2. In Vue 4, imported models were ALWAYS visible as wireframe in each window, either black when unselected or red when selected. In Vue 5, they only appear when they are selected, otherwise they are white (or sometimes grey), making them invisible against the background and a nightmare to work with. I've tried adjusting the Open GL settings and altering the view settings in each window, but it doesn't help. Any ideas?

3)When using radiosity I get a patchy effect on the ground (see top image)- it seems to be worse the more complex the model is. I also get noise when using glass materials (see lower image)- I can minimise it if I use the "bubble" texture, but it's terrible with Vue's own glass materials. What gives?

I'd be very grateful for any advice,
Jackson

1- Vue 5 has been unstable for some people since the beginning. It used to be very unstable on my machine until the latest update - now I have no problem with it. How much memory do you have on your system ? 2- This is a known issue for e-on. In Vue 5, wireframes are colored using the main color of the texture applied to them. Unfortunately, when taht texture is white, objects are drawn white on white. Until they fix this problem, you can work around it by selecting your 'white' object in the world view, and assign to that object a different 'preview' color (the list of colors is available just above the scene preview). 3- That problem is caused by the way Vue 5 takes samples of its environment for a radiosity effect. You can reduce the size of the samples (and get rid of these 'patches') by increasing the Quality Factor in the Atmosphere setting for Radiosity. Of course, that will also increase your rendering time by quite a lot.

Mine crashed also in "the fresh out of the box version" but after the last update it is very stable. You didn't outline your hardware but you may have memory problem or a compatibility issue with your video card. People will need to know what your video card is so they can comment on their experience with it for your open GL settings. Your patchey ground looks like a scaling problem with the material-try increasing the scale. Hope this helps a little. glenn

Thanks for the quick response guys!

It's such a relief to know I'm not the only one experiencing these problems and especially to get some solutions. I'll try upping the quality on radiosity renders as soon as I get time and the wireframe workaround works a treat!

Another Q (sorry)- how to line up and space lights accurately?

I'm on a PC, 3.2GHz, 1.2Gb RAM, nVidia GeForce FX Go5700.
