Now that I think about it...all that I can say is DAZ better have some really COOL features planned for Bryce 6.Shade is a VERY decent modeler, added with the new lighting set-ups (image based lighting, and ambient occlusion) the program is only missing terrains and trees.....thats not much really.Poser folks should be happy though.

I think Vue is the biggest competition for DAZ, expecially the newest Vue 5 Infinite, I know is 599, but it is the best deal arround for a landscape renderer...will see what Terragen 2 is gonna be...:D DAZ is very slow when it comes to Bryce...I want features like GI, HDRI, SSS and instancing very soon, getting sick and tired of lightning my scenes for days and then rendering it for weeks :D
Regardless what these smaller MGFRs do, It's all complimentary. Imagine what you can do cost wise now with a small arsenal of these tools. Not too long ago, the only way achieve these results was paying more for High end Apps. ("Honey, We're going to Re-Fi the house to buy software.") Just for playing, these apps are great. If you're a pro, You're typically going to have one field of expertise anyway. That's the way the industry is set up.

Next version of Bryce ? I still wager it never happens ! Uhhh,......let's see,....what's the latest load of old boleros from DAZ,.........oh yeah,...."Just weeks away" ! They haven't even managed a solid release date for 5.5, and already they're pushing the hype about V.6,.........I hope I'm wrong, but I am begining to think UFO's will land on the White House lawn before we see any new Bryce upgrade or version from Daz. The glass is half empty.

I'm gonna have to agree with ICM on this one. If you want to make killer artwork, you better know Photoshop, regardless. Just look at Alvin or Hobbit's galleries. But if you want to make money, you better get down to business and pick a few (three) high-end apps to learn. Nothing DAZ could possibly do will change this, and although I love Bryce, after experiencing Maya on it's own terms (read : Unlimited) and toying with Lightwave, that's just the way the industry works. Results. Conceptually, you could do anything with Bryce. Realistically, you can't animate a damn thing. DAZ should either up the ante landscape/environmetally, or get out of the business. Just how I feel, after playing with some high-end apps for a few months now, and over two years with Rhinoceros.... (Editors Note : All of Lordstormdragon's Terrain work is rendered in Bryce 4,5, or 9. Nobody uses Bryce 6 anymore.)
hmm..to be honest, they're not all that happy about Poser 6 over there in their forum..;) It's not an issue to me, I barely know how to use 4..;)
I watched when Poser 5 came out..the forum was screaming bloody murder, wanting it right now, I don't care, I want my MTV..er Poser..;), and CL rushed to release, and debuted with a buggy version that required patches later. It's not as bad this time, but as release time approaches, it's going to get worse.
DAZ, otoh, just dropped hints that 'something's coming', and relased D|S without a whole lot of fanfare, and for free. I haven't played with it much, but it seems to do the job it was set to do.
As a veteran of many a software release, I tend to avoid anything that ends in '.0'..;) so when it comes, it comes. I'll let them iron out the wrinkles before I try it on..though I have a lot of Bryce 5 I'm unfamiliar with as well..;)

"I watched when Poser 5 came out..the forum was screaming bloody murder, wanting it right now, I don't care, I want my MTV..er Poser..;), and CL rushed to release, and debuted with a buggy version that required patches later." Oh well, when rhino 3 came out there was a lot of people who screamed bloody murder about crashes and bugs, but I was satisfied. And now you can prise it ... well, you know. :-) And when they release Brazil for Rhino, it will be... whoa. Poser 5 was buggy, but worked pretty well on my computer. which was a real problem as there were other people opening it without much hassle, so it rankled those who did have problems. OTOH, some of the Poser problems are still present in SR 4. But it works. Bryce 5.5 is apparently "a few more weeks" out. Studio 1.0 will almost certainly be out before it. We'll see whether they'll come with stuff that Poser has, like boning. Not that I use it much. :-/)

I have to agree with LSD a little bit. Thanks for everyones views on it too.The other day I exported a terrain out of bryce, and ported it into C4D and did a radiosity render......for a moment it felt like it could have been the new bryce....Athough, if I ever have kids, bryce will be thier first computer program as an intro in 3d.I still am glad my dad did that for me.
