THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Texturing Tutorials?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 6:20 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 5:59 AM

Hi all, I've been thinking that I ought to - and would like to - get into texturing in Bryce. Can anyone tell me of any SIMPLE (at least to start with, 'cos I really don't understand it,) tutorials in this area of Brycepertise? Fran

I don't know any off the top of my head. Try searching through the Renderosity tutorial archives. My best recomendation would be the manual though.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Fri, 25 February 2005 at 8:29 PM

I did look in there, the tut archives I mean. Nada that I could see. I've also looked in the manual, but it doesn't run to tuts and isn't so easy to understand.

Start with the one at brycetech, it's got a really good explanation of the material lab.

And if you don't have Real World Bryce, get a copy.

kimpe, Thanks, looking there..... tjohn, What's Real World Bryce? roobol, I'm quite interested, but I keep forgetting where I get downloads from (although some people do label their stuff, so I don't need to) so that's one reason why I REALLY wanted to try doing some for myself - thus the need for a tutorial. But I won't be able to resist taking a look at your stuff... Fran

Excellent work, Roobol... Very detailed and informative. I'd like to see Agent Smith put a link to this somewhere very handy, perhaps talk to him or Zhann about such an idea? Fran, if you have any specific questions about texturing, don't hesitate to ask them. We all run into specific barriers, it's inevitable...!

"Real World Bryce" is a book written by Susan Kitchens for Bryce 4 that covers a lot of "how do I do this" things. It won't cover the features that showed up with bryce 5 like the treelab, but a lot of folks say that its still worth the price of admission.

There's a link to Real World Bryce in the Forum header, Fran.

Ah, the bible, I'd heard of that. I'll take a look and see how much it costs. I still have to be careful for a while yet. On particular problems, does anyone know how you go about creating a sort of regular slate effect? (I mean roof slates) Or is that not particular enough? What about the kind of texture, or what you would suggest doing, with the interior of an Arrow loop... well a whole ring of arrow loops actually, going right around the tower?? Just using the same bare stone effect as the tower just doesn't cut it. I've tried the Tyrel building effect... but not happy with it. Any Ideas? Image... coming... soon... Got it. Fran

By the way I'm also not happy with the bareness of the towers below the arrow loops, any ideas? Or will a wall just cure that? I'm also not sure if the arrow loops shouldn't be less regular, more scattered about, as if they are following a spiral staircase... Hmmm, Any hints anyone? Fran

Here's one way to do it with a picture texture.

Click on the P on the right to load a picture. The settings I used are also in this screen grab in the Texture Editor.

Load the color pic in the first square. Copy and paste it to the second square to get a bump map.

Here's the image map I used. I got the texture from 3DCafe and used Photoshop Offset filter and cloning to make it tileable.

I realize this wasn't exactly what you were asking for, Fran, but I thought this type of texture would do wonders on your towers. John
