I've only recently begun writing and posting them here. I am greatful for all the comments and support I've received. I'm glad to have found this place and would never leave it but .....

My question is....are there other places on the web like this were people showcase their writings and stories? If so where. I truly love to read and would love to see what other sites are out there that I might be missing out on.

There are groups on Yahoo and other sites where exchanges are encouraged. Writing.com (link provided) has a free as well as paid memberships available. It's rather important to define what you are looking for. Poetry? Fiction? Nonfiction? Fan Fiction? Are you looking to be published (NEVER, NEVER put on a free website what you would like to eventually publish). If you like the atmosphere of the graphics sites combined with the writing life, sites similar to this one (like [3D Commune](http://www.3dcommune.com/) or [Planit3D](http://www.planit3d.com/), for example, have forums similar to this one. Perhaps if you gave an indication of your area of interest, it might help with finding you some additional resources. Thank you for joining in here. :) Happy New Year! Write on!!

Writer's Write has a forum. It's been a while since I've posted there, but the way it used to work was all posts had to be approved by the moderator before they ever actually get posted. As a result sometimes things just fall through the cracks and never show up. The poetry forum seemed to be the most open and responsive one. Writer's Write also has a very nice database of publishers' guidelines you may want to check out. I belong to SPAWN (Small Publishers, Artists and Writers Network) and they listed a short story group that may be of interest to you: Short story writers unite. Do you want a place where you can share your stories? Check out Short Story Group at http://www.shortstorygroup.com. Here youll find a small, friendly and free critique group devoted to the purpose of helping writers to refine and polish their writing skills through group interaction. The only requirement is that you are actively writing. They also have a poetry group.

There's a whole network of blogs out there. I just started a new one http://zanografix.blogspot.com but its going to have an emphasis mostly on gallery postings. Sometimes I think the best way to promote your own writing is to goto a blog with a lead in, and provide a link to the page where the rest of the story or more poems can be found. John's right writer's write is an awesome site. Some site are more critical then others so be careful where you post sometimes the comments are pretty harsh. You can also post short items in the forum at my site. I'm always looking for visitors. I had one guy last year post 21 poems in a day...I asked if I could move the post to one of my standard pages and never got an answer. So they got deleted I couldn't be sure on the author. http://www.zanografix.com

There are also a number of online writing classes where you can learn a certain genre or type of writing, and students are usually encouraged to exchange their efforts. Some people don't do well in a group setting (I don't), so a writing coach may give you the help and support you need, M. Kenyon Charboneaux (nomadagain2000@yahoo.com) is a published writer, has taught a number of writing classes, and has acted as a judge for several of Renderosity's writing contests, and also acts as a writing coach. I have no idea how much she charges but, knowing Kenyon, she will adjust generously to the circumstances of the student.

Did you see the Harpers & Queen Orange Creative Writing Competition? I'm assuming that's a newspaper, but I haven't checked yet. But those rules!!

Rules:
A passport photo of yourself attached to an A4 sheet of paper with your full name & add, tel no, mobile no, occupation & date of birth. Your entry should be typed, double line spaced on A4 paper, printed on one side only & securely fastened together.

Yikes! I'd feel very uncomfortable sending off this kind of personal information to someone I don't know. Heck, I'd feel uncomfortable sending that kind of personal information to my mom!

I would be curious to hear anything, good or bad, about this site (not Harpers & Queen Orange) as I am always looking for good writer's sites. Looks promising.

The requirements for the Harpers & Queen Orange Creative Writing Competition seem very odd...I can understand the contact information but why should they care about your employment or birthday (unless it was contest for a specific age group). I don't have a passport, and don't really see what different my looks should make to a writer's contest (but maybe I am just weird that way). Interesting.

Oh...I see...Harpers & Queen: Entrants must be unpublished and aged 18 or over. The competition is open to women only.....The competition is not open to employees of the National Magazine Company or Orange PCS. I guess they think all this information will allow them to comfirm that.

I don't know, but I can think of some pretty scary scenarios. Maybe there's a seed here for a story. Hmm... jon

Book-in-a-Week (BIW) writers are connected through a list created at Yahoo. The main purpose of the group is to write, but we also exchange information, publishing news and kudos. Anything writing related. BIW writers submit goals to the list the week prior to BIW. They decide their own goals. Were just here to help with the support and accountability. The group works on the honour system. During BIW, writers write as much as they can and post their daily totals to the list. To stay motivated we recommend checking in everyday whether you write or not. No editing, no going back over whats been written. Write, write, write. What is important is getting the words down, creating a first draft. Editing and revising comes later. Some members actually finish a book in one week and for others the only time they write is during BIW, thereby giving BIW a double meaning. The BIWs are scheduled a year in advance. The most traffic on the list is generated during this week but it doesnt end there. You are welcome to stay and be as active as you like.
