Go the link above for your Star Wars and Star Trek models. 8)

OK I HAVE been there done that. I need the models ALREADY IN A (FILE FORMAT) that Bryce can read AND NOT have it ask for this pict , this texture, etc, THE COMPLETE model.

I have imported the ones from scifi3d force .net and a few I MEAN a few work correctly After I used the accutrans program on them to convert them to an obj file. THIS IS THE PROBLEM, I can't find the models in ONE file that look great (like the movies)

Any help, anyone got these on their HD's???? SorRy I sounded mean, I just am getting desperate, cause my space battle animation needs to be better with better ships, know what I MEAN???

Hmm..I've downloaded about 70 or so from theForce.net, didn't know about the textures. I tend to make my own, and use stock mats from Bryce. If you want the .obj files, and make a stab at texturing them youself, I can send you what I've made myself..
theForce should have the best of the best...you can look for individual modelers out there, like Mateen Greenaway, etc. The problem you're likely running into, is that 'the movies' are done with custom software and hardware that costs 6-7 figures..you can get some pretty good approximation, but all that 'realism' comes at a price (you also have to balance polycounts [memory] against the animation, etc)
Bryce can handle other formats besides .obj; I know it will handle .dxf, and older .3ds files (don't know where the 'cutoff' is..I think around Lightwave 6, you independent millionaires who actually can afford Lightwave, please feel free to correct me..;). If you look in the Bryce manual (I'm at work, so I can't), there is a list of formats Bryce can handle.
don't know if this helps, but sing out if it doesn't.

Pakled: Thanks, well do you have any models that are "complete"?

pakled ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 1:19 PM

hmm..well, to be honest, they're usually .obj, low-poly (Wings), and I just assign surfaces 'colors' that I apply materials to. You can IM me for details..

The site belongs to Curio, he's a merchant here at Renderosity. As for file formats, I've been able to load into Bryce dxf, .lwo, 3ds, obj, .wrl, rds, .3dmf. and dems.

Well, at this point, JimBob, I'm not certain why you think that Bryce is going to let you animate your space war? So far, you're using other people's models, other people's techniques, and are basically unwilling to do any of the work for yourself? Not to be rude, but if you don't LEARN to use Bryce, your animation will never happen, my friend. Work on smaller things first. Make your own ships, using other people's props is ridiculous and unoriginal. Make some still-shots of space battles. You'll find that using Bryce to do an animation is not really the way to go, unless you are talking about a very simple animation. There's simply no way to render a full-on space war in Bryce, JimBob. Focus on smaller things, stepping stones to work your way up to making your movie. Try Cinema4D, a lot of newer animation is coming from that program. Give Lightwave a shot, and if you decide to make your own ships, try Wings and Blender and try the Rhino demo. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but a dose of realism is necessary for you NOW, to prevent your disappointment later when you realize that Bryce can't reasonably do what you want it to...

Ok, I understand, I just thought that you might want to know tha there was another one out there on the internet, my aaploigies to you sir, and thannks for your help thus far, it has been great. I AM going to do this, no matter what, I can already se though that After Effects is going to be the second phase of the project AFTER the Aniamtions, that is. Premiere OR Win Movie Maker, OR some other program to contiue and for the Final Render of the movies is a must. BUT, I respect your opinion, I respect your help and thoughts, and again let me say THANK YOU, LSD for your help. Borrows line from A New Hope Thank you LSD, your my only "help"! Seriously, I've done exactly 49 seconds of rendered video of the battle, and well on my way to completing this puppy. When I get the Final Render finished I'll see If they, "the moderators" will let me post it in the Animation section here at R'osity. Be safe, take care, and keep on Brycing!!! MTFBWY!!!!! AND GOD BLESS YOU, all!!!

Alvin check yout IM's.

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 4:05 AM

Aye, I understand it's POSSIBLE to animate in Bryce, Alvin... But honestly, although I like your animation there, it's not even remotely industry-standard, and would have no real place on a demo reel... Damnit, I sound like such an elitist! I think I'm just gonna shuddup now, about this topic... (slinks off to the shadows...)

alvinylaya ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 5:04 AM · edited Thu, 17 March 2005 at 5:14 AM

LOL, true true I didn't really see the original thread so I don't really know exactly what's goin on. I thought you guys were just thinking personal projects for fun (not something serious or professional). Industry standard quality with Bryce 5 animation is not a realistic aspiration, the rendertimes alone would kill you... but then again Bryce is not exactly industry standard software, Bryce doesn't even do motion blurs; This makes the animations look kinda jittery.

@ JimBobCarl If you want to make an animation for school or personal learing/fun, all I'm saying is you can do some really cool stuff with Bryce. If your'e talking professional portfolio for the film industry, I would strongly suggest a higher end software and forget about Bryce. Bryce is at the bottom of the 3d food chain right now.
