Subject: Poser 6...

Poser 6 looks like an improved verson of poser 5... You know I belive I will buy it and like it alot, But Im real disapointed they did not include the ability to use animated textures... An animated texture is when you texture an object with an animation as a texture, So for example you can create fire steam mist, burning objects, moveing water the list go on and on, Anything you have an animation or or movie file of could be used as an animated texture.

Poser 5 can already do animated textures.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 2:14 PM

Yup, it sure can!

GWeb ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 2:18 PM

Yes it have texture animation capability.

operaguy ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 2:40 PM

you look for 'movie' in the nodes, right? :::og:::

akura_ ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 2:41 PM

Their going to bring back content paradise for Poser 6. I hope its better then Poser 5's. "Poser 5 can already do animated textures." !!!!! O.O How do you do that?

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 March 2005 at 2:43 PM

Yes, that's right. Movie is listed under the 2D Textures node. Click on the "Diffuse Color" plug, expand to select 2D Textures node, then click Movie. It will prompt you to locate the movie you want to use as a texture.

One more thing should be mentioned, though. You'll have to actually RENDER a movie to be able to see the movie as a texture. 8-)

;-) Hey, I had to cover my bases. LOL

I wish we could keyframe animate the procedural textures in Poser. The material room doesn't seem to be well connected to the animation palette, unless I'm missing the boat on some technique.

You CAN keyframe animate procedural textures in Poser 5. You click those little key symbols to turn on keyframing for any parameter in any node. The only problem is that keyframe animated shaders don't save to the materials library (i.e. the keyframe info doesn't get saved). To get around that, you have to use the F node, but for a given shader that you only need to use in one scene, keyframing works fine.

"You click those little key symbols to turn on keyframing for any parameter in any node." Wow. Can't believe I missed that all this time. Shame on me. Thanks.

you guys are leaving the planet. only if you have the inclination and energy... can either of you give a little more verbal or illustrated insight into what the hell you are talking about for us earthound mortals? Amazing talent on these boards and power in the material room that has hardly even begun to be tapped.... ::::: Opera :::::

Really I never knew about this, how do i get it to work:) Thanks for the heads up:)

Hmmm.....maybe it's time I posted a tute on animated materials. I'll see what I can do.

"can either of you give a little more verbal or illustrated insight into what the hell you are talking about"

Keyframe animating the procedural materials (3D texture nodes) in P5's material room. For instance, you can have the surfaces of objects do all kinds of animated deformations just by plugging a 3D node into the bump or displacement slot, and keyframe animating some of it's parameters. Picture one of your characters "metamorphing" into a hideous monster... you can keyframe animate some procedural displacement on his skin by simply adjusting some of the parameters on the "cell" node, to make it look like his skin is 'bubbling up' or transforming. If I have time today, I'll make a small sample animation. It's very useful to be able to animate procedural textures instead of using gif or avi files for textures.
