Thanks all.For anyone interested in playing with the script, info and download are now available at the above link.
Unfortunately Python with network rendering seems to be broken in the latest build, so this probably won't work with rendercows.
I used space key to bookmark this thread. Thank you very much for this excellent script :) Mazak
I'm happy if someone who actually makes renders, rather than just dreaming and tinkering with scripts like me, can use it for something :-)
I'm now working on a version where the figures walk in whatever direction they are facing, and avoid walking into one another, this doesn't seem as difficult as I first thought, so may be available before Monday.
In the intro to your Figures Marching script you say to assess how the full scale figure to be used in the EcoSystem travels per second,in Vue logical units! How do you do this? as I cannot find any section in Vue that covers this section!
Is there any way of using pre animated Daz Poser figures not walking but doing things with their hands.ie Standing and digging, firing a bow, doing exercises etc? arrow1

I obtained the distance travelled by setting up a one second walk along a straight path in Poser, imported this into Vue and measured the length of the path against a Vue cube. So far I have tried Don and Judy, both work OK with a value of 45, one of the robots (can't recall which) required a value of 30. If anyone else uses this script and comes up with numbers for other figures, let me know and I'll put the values on the page.
Any repetitive action can be used, obviuosly not with this script, import your figure (digging or whatever) make it a repeat animation (animation toolbox) and save as a VOB before adding to the ecosystem. If your figures are on a flat surface then any poser animation can be used, including those with walk paths, however getting the figures not to walk into one another can be tough!
Many thanks for your assistance. arrow1

I would like to do the same with an old sailing ship.

I'll echo the answer I gave wonderboy, not that he's wonderboy there, on the e-on forum here:
"I started writing a script for this a few months ago. I had a problem getting realistic looking pitch and roll angles though, but I'll try and get back to it over the weekend."
And add; I found myself a bit trigonometrically challenged by the pitch and roll bits, think I've got it sussed now though, I'll try and complete it over the next couple of days. Edited for inevitable typos.

See link; 1248 Judies just got wind of the opening sale of a local IKEA store (bad taste joke for UK residents there), and are marching cross country. 5 second animation, requires DivX5.1+.
