Subject: The Heiress for SP3 = Paris Hilton?

I was just looking through the newest news letter from Daz tonight and noticed a new character and texture pack that is titled The Heiress for SP3 I might be imaging this. but does this new character pack resemble Paris Hilton?

haha, a Beatle fan! I thought you were talking about a hotel, but a quick search showed me that it's (hopefully) the nick of some girl. I do hope she doesn't look like that Daz character as that is really out of proportion (neck, legs,...)

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

macmullin ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:34 AM

In a funny sense, yes! We are talking about the Hilton Hotels. Paris Hilton (the girl): she is the daughter (or The Heiress) of/to the owner of the Hilton Hotel chain (who are extremely wealthy people). You can read all about her all over the internet. Meryl Streeps nose, by "Hollywood standards", could use some work. As could Barbara's ("B"). I'm not saying either should have a nose job. It's their choice. I consider, since how pretty something or someone is IS open to each individual viewer, Meryl Streep to be less attractive than Paris Hilton (to put it in a more politically correct tone). I commented on her physical looks, though, and that should have nothing to do with her acting ability. I have been a fan of hers since I saw "Sophie's Choice" (renting it again, only 6 months ago to show my wife). Her ability in accents is amazing! She is one of my favorite actors (I just watched her in a Lifetime movie a few days ago). I have no (good) idea how intelligent she is, though, so I cannot comment on that portion of the above comments. Nor can I comment on much of anything else about her since nearly everyone in the "biz" has two "faces"--one for the viewing public and another for their private lives. However, in purely a discussion about physical looks, she's not going to be winning a beauty contest any time soon. And, since the nose on the image above, reminded me of Meryl's nose, I commented on it. And in making that comment, I never intended to give the impression that Paris Hilton "IS" a Meryl Streep. (sheesh...)

SeanMartin ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 11:32 AM

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks "Miss" Hilton is pretty needs to get his vision tested. Oh well, that's one of the joys of Poser: in our little universe, even Paris Hilton can be pretty.

The skin looks good, but I never buy skins at Daz because their policy does not allow me to see what I buy. (no intention to start another flame here! I respect their point of view and make use of my own, personal freedom of choice not to accept that, and thus not to buy. Everyone is entitled to another opinion.) Besides, I already have so many skins... And the character is not my style. Yes, A lookalike of Jessica Alba would be more tempting. ;) I love that smile. (ai ai, no dear, ...yes, you're more beautiful than she...)

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

No no never did you see what happened to Jennifer Grey, do you remember seeing her in a film since Dirty dancing?..mind they did a great job on her new nose, just seems to me that it took a lot of character from her face...I guess this could go into a long in depth conversation about how society defines beauty, but the truth is i know what you mean, its just that i find a strong nose on a woman to be very sexy :o).....Steve

The net worth that she has now, added to what she will inherit one day, can make anyone look attractive. I wouldn't say she's "ugly", but she's not a raving beauty either. Well dressed "ordinary" on the skinny side is how I would describe her. Amazing though. She has literally NO talent (did you see her host SNL?), and yet some how she's "famous" because her father owns a hotel chain. Go figure, lol

"its just that i find a strong nose on a woman to be very sexy" Not sure what a strong nose is defined as...LOL...but I have to admit of all the noses on female actresses, I just can't figure out what is so attractive about Rosanna Arquette's nose to me. It's my fav. It's a bit turned up, which I like, but it's bigger than "that perfect Hollywood" nose, for sure.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:19 PM

I noticed that Uma Thurman is another actress with more than the usual nasal endowment. And, on the DVDs of Kill Bill, you don't notice it while she's acting.

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:31 PM

As a woman, I think both Paris and Uma are very attractive. With Paris, it's her svelte figure and manner. She exudes "wealthy" and does have the shape that runway models practically die for. She is stylishness personified, even if she is lacking in the brain department. Although, I have a feeling that her dumbness is an act. 8-) Uma Thurman is also very attractive. She has a body that is to die for, and a lot of talent besides. My favorite female movie star is Michelle Pfeiffer (she is also in the marketplace here); someone has already mentioned Jessica Alba; but for the "girl next door" type, Meg Ryan is adorable (before collagen treatment) and Sandra Bullock is a cutie as well. Don't get me started on the guys! 8-)

steveshanks ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:43 PM

Strong is my polite version of big LOL, for me its a combination of nose and mouth that makes Rosanna Arquette special. I may be over using the word character here but i think thats what gives the ladies mentioned the edge, beauty with that little something else..Steve

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:50 PM

I could get started on Humphrey Bogart. And just watch him in The Big Sleep when he pretends to be that book geek. Mike is too much the Hollywood pretty-boy, and he doesn';t have the style to count as bishonen.

OK, you got me started... I warned you!

For starters, Sean Connery only gets better with age. He's definitely #1 Patrick Stewart is proof that bald is beautiful. Mel Gibson ... those eyes and smile are amazing. Pierce Brosnan ... be still my heart! Brad Pitt reminds me of someone I grew up with; Denzel Washington ain't too shabby.

I would LOVE to see some of these guys in lookalike form!

Also agree, from a man's point of view, on the guys listed. Of course, I'd give quite a few coins to have either Sean's or Patrick's deep accent.

Moonbiter ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 5:59 PM

Paris Hilton is a skank, who is only famous because she is a rich skank. End of story. As soon as everyone realizes that she'll fade away into the obscure background of the elite that she 'video taped' her way out of... Why any one would pay to recreate her in Poser is a bit beyond me. Now a Jessica Alba or Shannon Elizabeth clone will have me dropping $$$ but a woman with no class means no cash.

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:29 PM

It's all a matter of taste, I guess. I saw Paris on "Saturday Night Live" and thought for all the money she has to pour into herself that she's not holding up all that well. Meryl Streep will be beautiful at 90 because her beauty doesn't depend on her looks alone. Katharine Hepburn was an amazingly beautiful woman well past the time men have discarded most women...why, because she was always true to herself and didn't let herself get railroaded into looking like an imitation of someone else. That's the problem I have with most Poser women (not all, but most)...they all pretty much look the same and the same is a stereotype that I don't happen to find very fascinating. But that's just me.

Xena ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:34 PM

Go Moonbiter!!! :) Skank LOL I so totally agree with Sean. The woman is as ugly as a hat full of arseholes shudder I can't open a magazine without seeing her royal vapidness, now I have to see her in 3d as well -my eyes my eyes- LOL Steve - I adore Patricia Arquette. she's has the loveliest profile. I watch Medium every week just to see her (and it's a terrific show too!). There's just something about that Arquette clan :)

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:42 PM

I saw Paris on "Saturday Night Live" and thought for all the money she has to pour into herself that she's not holding up all that well. I wouldn't call her a "classic beauty" no ... but she is quite fashionable and attractive by today's styles. I don't see her maintaining those looks well, though. 8-) I agree about Meryl Streep and Katharine Hepburn. Other women in the same league are Lauren Bacall (to go along with Bogie, previously mentioned), Greta Garbo (I vant to be alone), and so many other amazing women of the golden era of films. There are few women of that caliber today.

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:45 PM

Both Audry and "Kate". Both had a certain style about them. One of those French sayings come to mind but I dare not bastardize the French language (smile).

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:48 PM

Oh yes, Audry Hepburn ... another classic beauty!

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:59 PM

Even the women who weren't really classically beautiful (Bette Davis, Joan Crawford) had so much personality that you couldn't ignore them on screen. I can't think of many of the new young group of fashionables that holds on to a scene that way. Audrey Hepburn definistely one of those beauties with personality....so much going on behind her eyes that had nothing to do with a perfect nose. I loved Leslie Caron too because she wasn't such a clone (I love the Poser texture "Gigi" because it reminds me so much of her). And, to be fair, I find the new young male actors just as impossible to tell apart. I was thinking the other day about whether or not Humphrey Bogart could find work if he showed up for a screen test today. Peter Lorre, Charles Laughton, even John Wayne. We are so into lookalikes nowadays that I don't know if true originals have a chance.

For current celebrities, I think Drew Barrymore has that classic beauty look, at least she did when I saw her on Letterman the other night. Plus her bubbly personality adds to her beauty. Katherine Zeta Jones has classic beauty too. Daniela Pestova (model) is also very beautiful.

It does look just like her and is a great likeness. However, I think even Paris would agree that it looks like her. Don't forget she is a real person with web access and alot of money to protect her image, expecially after the porn scandal. Courts do allow celevrities the right to protect how their image is used, even if their name isn't. This is why you don't see toy companies automatically making dolls that look like celebrities. Someday, someon in our community is going to get burned badly. It is really very touchy ground. Remember the digital clone? Remember her Eula restricted how her Poser likeness could be protrayed as to protect her image. If E, a comedian, spoof show, or one of her friends brought this likeness to her attention she might lash out with all her money just to send a message. She won't care her name wasn't used. It is a credit to the artist that it looks so close to her, but that could prove to be the very problem later. She has alot of fan sites and sooner or later the character is going to appear on one of them anad she, or someone she knows, will take notice or at least be curious as to what it is and where it came from, and who profited by it.

Cooler said something about the fact that unless the celebrity as copyrighted their face/look/features that it's a fine line and the likeness isn't necessarily a copyright violation. You'll have to ask him for more on that though, I got that second hand in the copyright forum when I asked about the very topic about celebrity look alike poser figures.

You are refering to any extention of copyright law called ""right of publicity". http://www.publaw.com/rightpriv.html It protects celebrity likenesses from 3rd parties. This product is tricki. It is called the hieress, it says that the morphs were based on a real celebrity as well. That may cross the line. using "Heiress" could establish use of persona. A juudge may very likely agree that there is no problem, but most cases are won through legal fees. The title and the part mentioning the morph inspiration might not have been the best ideas though. Cooler is a great guy. He is very knowledgable. But it is obviously Paris and is meant to be Paris. Even if there isn't anything "technically" complicated, it doesn't mean there can't be complications. Unlike sims stuff, this is a commercial product, granting people the right to use the likeness comercially. Freestuff is usually safe because you generally can't use it commercially. Artist and brokers should really consult their own lawyers first, since brokers assume all financial liablity in their contracts resulting from and judgments. Basically the celebrity would sue the store and the store would then seek damages from the artist. Stores can't simply say "we just sold it, you will have to speak to the artist". Alot of "Likeness" issues are voided with real people who look like a celebrity. But manufactured toys and products are different. Also, where claiming satire can save you, advertising photorealistic may not. See this url and search for term "Celebrity" http://norcal.gag.org/legalities/3_04_legalities.html Search for term "likeness" http://www.entertainmentlawyermiami.com/FSL5CS/entertainment/entertainment8.asp Vanna sues toy company Search for term in this url "Vanna White" http://www.medialawyer.com/lec-copy.htm Arnold sues toymaker http://weblog.siliconvalley.com/column/dangillmor/archives/010409.shtml Like my mom used to say, "Just cause you can, doesn't mean you should". Not because it is neccessarity wrong, but because there may be consequences. Personally I just get chills around this stuff and would never want to see any broker or artist at risk. People have to take their own steps to be 100% sure they are protected. Never take anyones word for it, not mine or a stores. Check yourself.
