The building on the right is the Visual Arts Association of Louisville. The tower is the old Louisville Water Tower. This is right on the Ohio River...about 7 miles or so from our place. i was working on this image while i almost asleep in the wee hours this morning. i'm doing everything half asleep these days! i have lost the original image and i can't find the data. :( this was taken without a tripod. i had the cam on a post. i welcome your critiques!!!!! i want to learn so please jump in and tell me what you think! :) thanks guys!

thought you'd might like to see what this looks like without the tower cut off. well here are a few images. i know these images aren't that good. i did my best though. would have stayed longer but we were already late to visit our friends. data for this image: f 3/5 1/5 sec. ISO 64 no tripod kemal and i had dinner at a seafood restauant on the river at sunset. i ran outside and snapped this one while kemal was ordering for us.

thanks, Cindy! i'm not pleased with cutting off the tower but i didn't know how else to show the detail. i think i just found the data on that first image. found a little scrap of paper i had written it on last night. it's titled TowerNightshot...i believe it's for my entry. f/ 2.2 1 sec. ISO 64

i don't think cutting off the tower detracts from the image at all!! just don't let Tedz see it ;]

Both great I am not that fond of stars around lights, but they have a postcard effect here.

OH MY GOD!!!!! That top one is probably the best night shot i have ever seen...and im not saying that to flatter you even. WOOOW!!!! And i totally disagree with Doug (sorry man) about the lights...they are what makes this THE PERFECT SHOT!!!! The symmetry (spellcheck please) is stunning!!!!! Gorgeous work Sheila.....wow, you really amazed me with this one!!!!! I love the second one too, especially the sky. But in my opinion, the lights in that one are somewhat distracting and look really out of place. I would clone out those backlights. But that is just my 4 SEK......Have a great one Sheila!!!! WoOOOOOHOOOOO!!!! Weekends coming up people!!!! YAAAAY!!!!!

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Thanks, Andreas! i really wanted to do this one right, but it sure was challenging! i'm not totally pleased with it, but i did my best. we HAD to go. we were late at our friends' house, and we just had to call it a night. kemal and i will go back there several times this summer. hopefully i'll take a better shot then! yeah, you're right...in that 2nd one the lights should be cloned out. i've been working on images like crazy and just was too lazy to do it. just wanted to show this from a different perspective. thanks again, Andreas!!!

Well I never said I did not like them here.I think it gave it a look that could be made into a postcard for this top one.

thanks, Doug! can you give me some pointers on how to fine tune this one? (you or anyone!!!). the left part of the image bothers me. i'm thinking about submitting this one to the association and/or to a local magazine. don't have anything to lose.

Zacko ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 2:32 AM

I dont see how you can improve that top one actually, the only thing i can think of is to get rid of that yellow light to the left. That one seems a little out of place compared to the others. Other than that i think this is simply PERFECT!!!!

that was my thought too, Andreas! i wonder...clone it out or crop it? i'm thinking a crop wouldn't look good here. thanks, Andreas!

Noooooo, dont crop!!!! Clone Sheila, clone!!! #:o)

I would cut off all the left side from the window on. Like this. I think it has better composition. A more classic one, certainly. :-) And if you added the flares in postwork, I would remove them too, cause they look quite artificial.

thanks guys! Vlatko...the flares were not done in postwork. what you see is what came from my cam. i was thinking about cropping it the way you did it. i know that tower shouldn't be in the middle. i know i'm breaking the rules again with that first one. i'll think about this one. i just don't care for it cropped this way. but all rights, it's better composed. i dunno. i will think about & look at it again later! thanks for your help guys!
