You need more than UVMapper, as you've probably noticed from those tutorials. Unless you're planning to paint skin-tight clothing directly onto your figures, you'll need a modeller of some sort. You can use a free one to start off with, but there are some tricks. First question: conforming or dynamic? If you have Poser 5 or 6, dynamic clothing is easier to make, because you don't need to mess around with CR2s, bones, and joint parameters. It looks more realistic too. Second, what sort of clothing, for what figure? You could try my QuickDress for V3, which has a tutorial, and there are others on my site which you may not have seen. It's simple, but it will get you started.

you model it in a 3d modeling program. you can export the figure you're making clothing for, from poser as an .obj file, then import it into a 3d app like wings3d, shade, rhino, or 3dsmax, then start building the clothing piece(s) around the figure. just use the figure as a tailor's dummy (you can't use any portion of the figure as part of the clothing itself if you intend on sharing your clothes with other people). If you're making conforming clothing, you have to divide it into groups, using either poser's grouping tool, or a uv mapping program. the groups have to correspond with the body parts of the figure you're making the clothes for. then you have to create a .cr2 file for the clothing so that you can conform it to the figure in poser. You don't have to do this, if you're making dynamic clothing. E.D.

You need a modelling application, such as Wings3d, which is free, or 3DSMax, which isn't. Wings has some very useful tutorials which will get you started on the basics of modelling. An alternative approach is PhilC's Clothing Creator which will create Dynamic (P5 and P6 only) clothes from a 2D image. You can find more details at his site (link provided).

thanks very much for your replies! Ok excellent to know that I need more than UVMapper...I was lost! well off the top of my head, I cannot remember which one you take into the cloth room and play with...thats the one I like better...of course, from what I have just read... it is probably conforming..Im sure I love the way it folds in various poser on figures..I would make clothing for V3 and M3 and I will definately check out the dress, tut and link! Thanks a lot :)

It's Dynamic Clothing you take into the Cloth Room. You can turn Conforming Clothes into Dynamic Clothes but that's a whole nother can of worms.

It's cool that it's cool... ;) If you have a render that you're willing to share, send it in to my User Gallery. It doesn't have to be elaborate or technically advanced, just so that it will get people thinking "hey, I could do that..."
