Yes I love Bryce5.5 way more then I do 5.01.. I can go into all the details But then again I might get into trouble... I am starting this Thread Because I want to see who really likes Bryce 5.5 and are Happy they made the choice... If you come here to say something Bad about Bryce5.5 well We cant STOP ya for this is a Free world we live in and I believe in Freedom of speech... But let it be Known that I might just have to Laugh at you...And I am pretty sure Others will Laught too... Yes it might be a Little Buggy... But you can bet DAZ is into Fixing things... Look they got a Patch out within 24 hours ever see Other Programs do That..? So Folks let it go...Say How much you really like Bryce and what it does for you in this Lifetime... Or....? What would you do WITHOUT Bryce...?

Speed discussions completely aside; Love the new way the library prests are set up, much more organized. LOVE the bug fixes...they have speeded up my workflow. (which is very important for me) My favorite is the fix of the soft shadows not staying on in the sky lab. Oh, man that was ridiculous for that not to work in the past. The much improved OpenGL is going to help a lot with my modeling of "loose" scenes in a quicker way. I do use figures from time to time, and that new import also increses the speed of my workflow. For me, its works as a very nice appetizer until B6 comes around. :) AS

Well, I already wrote this elsewhere so I might as say it here too. For the price I paid for it I like it. The exchange rate has worked in my favour once more so that for me, I look on it as equivalent to the cost of going out for a meal with my husband (I'm a PC member who had a valid Bryce 5 code so got a fair whack of discount too).

What I liked most so far is that actually operating day to day tasks like moving stuff, saving files, making trees - all seem to go faster and more smoothly.

Ironically, the only crash I've had so far is trying to import your obp from the tutorial Foleypro :D

I particularly like the idea that I can separate my presets into an unlimited number of smaller libraries. Being restricted to 15 categories had felt quite testing to make sure I chose a sensible pattern of sorting stuff.

I have bought quite a lot of other bits and pieces of software at around this sort of price range... for instance one to catalogue dreams. It's buggy, I wrote to the author and have simply heard nothing back. I like that DAZ has a forum and people on top of things replying promptly and dealing with issues as they arise.

I still feel that if I'd paid $99 dollars to go from 5.01 to 5.5 I would have felt I'd not got much for my money. But as it is I'm happy enough.

I'm going to use Bryce 5.5. I have serious doubts in terms of the new render improvements, and I consider the other changes largely cosmetic. The thing which honestly annoys me the most is that it deathkneels my computer when rendering. If there is noticeable render speed improvement I'll just bite the pillow and deal with it.

"Look they got a Patch out within 24 hours ever see Other Programs do That..?" SILO (and they have only 2 ppl in their dev-team) Could not say do I love it or not, simply, becouse I did not buy it yet, too early in my opinion... About DAZ studio: No rigging custom characters, no full support for all the features in 3Delight, not interested (simply not developed enough at the moment), requested rigging feature 4 months ago, how is that for a service (bones were already there) :P

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 3:57 AM

Oh, yeah Studio is still definitely beta. Supports 16-bit displements though, which makes me oh, SO happy! AS

Can DAZ studio apply displacement deformations on existing model (mesh) and transfer that into Bryce ??? :)

Kathye ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 4:13 AM

Yes, I have to agree with Draculaz on his point. I'm also used to running all sorts of other things in the background while Bryce renders and at the moment sometimes it halts my computer and sometimes it doesn't, guess it depends how much is in the scene at the time.

Kemal ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 4:45 AM

Why would you need running anything else if you just loooooove Bryce 5.5 , hehe :P

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 5:21 AM

"Can DAZ studio apply displacement deformations on existing model (mesh) and transfer that into Bryce?" Nope. But, I'm gonna campaign to have it in Bryce 6 even if it leads to my death, lol. I don't think it will have to come to that, if Studio has it, how much of a logical stretch does it take to give it to Bryce? AS

I've had two open at the same time but wasn't testing rendering. I was just doing it to open a previously saved model to get it's mat into the presets and use again. And after I posted the last message I got to thinking how I just accept that if I'm doing a cloth simulation in Poser 5 I go away and do something else for an hour or so (housework? nah... usually something much less useful ;) Just thinking it was odd that I was upset that the new Bryce inflicts time away from the computer on me when I accept it in other programs.

Kathye ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 6:06 AM

Ok, just opened two, one with a fairly complex scene I'm working on and set that rendering, one with some model fiddling I'm doing and set that rendering too. Seemed fine to me on a subjective level. Perhaps it's just other programs Bryce 5.5 hates me using ;) Talk about customer loyalty!

I am glad I bought it. Love Bryce, all versions. -The price was right (19 dollars). -It runs faster. -My taskbar is not locked anymore (I hated that, numerous times I unknowningly stopped my render). -The libraries are very organized. -And I think by buying it, I support Daz so it can develop Bryce 6. That is why I also bought Daz Bryce 5, allthough I had a Corel copy already. I am glad finally somebody cared to take up the program again.

OoOOooooOOO, I've only just discovered that I can talk and post messages on Rosity while Bryce renders in the background, (and that's B5) so the fact that you can do TWO Bryce renders OR MORE all at the same time is... well, just amazing! It seems that the more that people talk about B5.5 the better it gets.

Well, we'll see. I sent money for my Bryce 5.5 last week, so I hope to get all my codes today. Now, if you want to talk multi-tasking, my computer is a great place to see this kind of thing every day. I'll give Bryce 5.5 a go, along with Photoshop, Pagemaker, three or four IE windows, Outlook Express, Dreamweaver MX, Audacity, Wings, Rhino, and a couple of instances of Powerpoint, usually all plugging along side by side. This would be kind of a typical day on my machine. If I try the new B5.5, THEN we'll see if it takes a Win2K computer to its knees. Now, at least, I have something to test first thing, eh?

bandolin ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 8:01 AM

I'm still not convinced. Depending on how long it takes for DAZ to come out with Bryce 6, I think I'll wait. I'll stick with 5.01 for at least six months. If Bryce 6 still isn't on the horizon, I'll bite then.

DAZ wanted to attempt to get a Bryce 6 out a year after 5.5 came out. "If I try the new B5.5, THEN we'll see if it takes a Win2K computer to its knees" -Nope, works fine. I use Win2k Pro SP4, and that's my screen grab up there. At my max, I have going; Bryce, Photoshop CS, Thumbsplus, Outlook, Winamp, a few browser windows, and I use Zone Alarm Suite (which has firewall, anti-virus, e-mail protection, cookie control and ad-blocking) whew. But, normally nothing constantly running in the background, just Bryce rendering. (nothing that would ALWAYS be competing with Bryce for cpu usage). AgentSmith

Er... I HAVE had: Bryce5, PaintShop, Wings 3D, WindowsMediaPlayer, two Firefox Windows (one with 3 tabs open) oh and a couple of Word documents, all running together.... I must try that with Bryce rendering in the background too, see what explodes. (Wings doesn't see too happy about it, it suddenly disappeared while I was modelling a new dome, but everything else seems okay - so far)

Thanx. Got a little worried there for a while. :) Multiple windows is a true timesaver, especially when youre working on a scene that takes hours to save, and need to model something small to add. Cant praise that feature enough... I have a few scenes im going to compare render times with, and if 5.5 renders faster, ill give it a go. Well see.

Tirjasdyn ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 11:02 AM

It loaded scenes I'm working on with out a problem....still seemed slower on render. It wouldn't even start rendering my Aiko pic. I have mixed feelings...20bucks not bad but for the bug fix? That and dazstudio intergration....I don't really like it. I find myself leaning towards vue or even droping landscapers in general for modeling in Shade. I'll wait for 6 I think but I'm now on the fence..I still love Bryce, but I'm not seeing a reason to upgrade...5(.5) does what I need...creating backgrounds for Poser (p6 has surpassed Bryce in Rendering, imo) or creating landscape scenes. I liked that they organized things and gave us a few new presets... I dunno..unless B6 is a BIG jump...I might just not bother.

jelisa ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 11:53 AM

(popping in) Kathye, For the Foleypro OBP file, instead of trying to import it, create a new folder in your Objects Library called Foleypro, then drop the OBP into it. I can't recall if the OBP has Bryce trees in it (Brian?) but if it does, I cannot import or export OBPs that have Bryce trees in it, but I can install them directly to the Objects Library and open them just fine from within Bryce. This might be what is happening for you as well. -darlisa

RE: Your thread - great to see someone post on the positive side, 'cos negativity breeds negativity.

OK I might not have 5.5, and I've no intention of buying it. But as far as I'm concerned, DAZ are a GOD at this particular moment in time, and they hold the life of Bryce in their hands. I only hope they're not gonna get greedy, become Anti-Poser/Pro-Studio with Bryce6. It's competitor didn't fall for that suicidal trap, and I hope DAZ won't either. Bryce is no longer the be-all and end-all of it's breed, it can't afford to be picky!

Are we paying beta testers on 5.5?

I have it, i tried it, i don't use it..

Only thing i really liked about it is the image on the splashscreen when it opens..At least DAZ got that right with it.

Hope that answers your question.

@Jasonmit i'm on dialup, they give you longer time to download it now. Bryce 5.5 is broken up into smaller files the biggest being 49mb which took me 2 hours to download.
I did all the downloads in a couple of days.

But if I went back and looked at how many hours That was put into trying to Break Bryce for me...Lets see 4-8 hours a day plus 10-12+ on days off...7 months Plus...Do the Math.I did this Because Bryce is a Passion of mine and I wanted to see it get Resurected and it did... I think an Earlier Version accidentely got mixed up in the final Compile and that is why they are having Problems... I have heard all along that the Code in Bryce was all Jumbled and just Barely there...I think Doc has even said that as well as Andy... So for SOMEONE to Say that they(DAZ and TESTERS)Didnt do the Job...Needs an evaluation... Bryce was Dead...It isnt Now... Hey Mistakes were Made in the Release...Crap Happens... Poser5 was a Fiasco in the first week...I hear Vue Infinite has more Crashes then Bryce on its worst day...
