Yes No No The only features that might get me to "upgrade" are the ability to run scripts and the cloth room. So far I am not good enough to worry about the scripts and use external programs for the cloths. I understand that you can do some nice stuff with hair as well. Still trying to decide on P6. Seems like a lot of money if not all my models/work will work in it.
1 - Use P4 and P5. Been using/learning P5 a lot more lately. 2 - Used PP a few times and uninstalled it. It runs too slow considering the lack of features compared to P5. 3 - Know the difference and how to convert. Quite often I'll make my own bump maps (for products that don't have them) if I plan to do any close-up renders.

...and when the day is dawning...I have to say goodbye...a last look back into...your broken eyes.
P5 exclusively nowadays. Will wait and see P6 in action before I get that, but I'm sure I will eventually change to that :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
So it seemed that the consensus is to drop .bum files which will translate to smaller packages and faster download. Additionally I've created a tutorial page for those you may still not understand the conversion from .bum to .jpeg. How to bump I very much love you all for participating. Again thanks.
The consensus agrees with laboratory data (aka, gallery renders made with my products); if you don't include BUM files, P4 users won't use bumps. But it also appears that if you DO include BUM files, many P4 users still won't use bumps. So I concur. Throw the BUMs out! Besides -- anyone who uses P4 is going to be either someone who has been using Poser for a while, or someone who has gotten used to figuring out how to maintain compatibility in a rapidly changing (notice I didn't say "advancing") computer world. Aka, they are the most likely Poser users to be able to figure out a bump-map conversion. Laetia and I were just discussing this issue, and our general slant seems to be that the cleanest way to maintain P4 bump compatibility is to provide Bump Poses in the download; MAT poses that do nothing but inject P4-style BUMs. With the cross-compatibility of PP jpegs and P5 displacment/gradient nodes, it then becomes possible to have a single MAT pose that serves the other versions of Poser.
I tested this by releasing P5 versions only and there wasn't much difference in sales. P5 alone sold as good as paks containing both versions. let's face it: how many people used P3 when P5 came out? We are now at P6 and they already talk about P7. I think it's time to move on, especially since P5 and above grants better quality in renders...lev
What about including a MAT pose which applies the BUM automatically, but as a jpg? I saw this method in a tut somewhere and it works a treat: In P4 you make a .BUM file by manually applying the texture whateverTex.jpg. Then you rename that .BUM extension to .BMP, open it in an image editor (it'll be a weird greenish relief image) and save it as whateverBump.JPG. Then make a MAT pose (just for P4 users) that'll apply that jpg as the bump map. PP users can apply the regular texture image jpg as their bump. It means P4 users are still supported, The downloads are barely affected (it's a jpg, not a BUM) and they have a one-click application, they don't have to jump through hoops to convert anything. Ob
I never use BUMs. I have P4 Artist & most of the time it likes to thnk it's PP... crazy thing won't load P4 versions no matter what I try.. it must have closer workings to PP than P4. So buh-bye BUMs. hehehe

I still use Poser 4 but I have both P5 and P6. I can convert a .jpg but I prefer not to have to. As a merchant I do package both .jpg and .bum versions.

ProPack mainly and sometimes, Poser 5. I know about jpegs and how to convert .bum files.
