chainmail and leather it may be, but the troll is about 5 times stronger that our huge fellow on the left, and that power behind a MACE (crushing weapon) would kill in 1 blow (in real life, not the fantasy world we all dream of perhaps!) oh, and the mace is actually so close to identicle in length its uncanny (or on purpose LOL) ;o)

That is one very cool image. Here is a direct link for the lazy (like me!) I think I would put money on the troll: his armour is lighter, making him quicker, and his longer arms should offset the advantage of the knight's longer sword. Also I love his spikes :o)"you are terrifying
and strange and beautiful

Shire
My money's on the Troll. His skin looks tough enough to break that sword, LOL.

I think it depends on how skilled the knight is. If he's a seasoned warrior, with greater fighting skills than the troll, then he probably would come out victorious due to his sharper wit, and formidable fighting style.
However, if the troll has equal skills, then there's an old saying in boxing that might translate to this situation as well... "a good big guy will beat a good little guy every time". Meaning, if their skills are equal, the big guy's power and size give him the overwhelming advantage.

I guess I looked at it and couldn't tell what was actually in the plate mail. Looked like another troll (or freak char). As to size, the one on the left appears to be in the background more, therefore, his size, if moved to the foreground would be the same. Hence, my prediction on the winner. Crushing blow notwithstanding, it takes quite a bit of energy to get that heavy ball in motion (making it somewhat easier to dodge). As I understand it, weapons were mch heavier than we assume...dbl handed swords weighing in from 40-60 pounds (I think I read somewhere).
"...locked in a battle of wits..." key phrase that. ALways speaks volumes. That knight is toast -- and the tree will make a good source of toothpicks...
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
i will put my vote on the one with the hidden gun...lol... OR if there is no gun it will be the Tree. WHY??? Well the Troll will swing with the mace but the Armoured dude will duck, causing the Troll to hit the tree making it collapse onto the Armoured dude killing him.
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.
Maces are devastating weapons against plate armor. And you can't move fast in plate. Now of the guy was wearing chain (or preferably hardened leather) he would have had a chance. My money's on the troll.

The troll. First sweep with the mace will break that shiny sword. Then a bear hug will break the knight like cracking a lobster claw. Those spikes on the troll's cheat ought to penetrate even the platemail, but the lower spikes will certainly pierce the vitals. Give the knight a few minutes to bleed to death if he doesn't die from the crushed ribs into his lungs or the broken back or the troll's bad breath. The only way for the knight to win against a bigger opponent is to use ranged weapons accurately, use pole arms, or to dodge behind and hamstring the monster. A troll on the ground is semi-helpless. However, hamstringing and backstabbing isn't very chivalric, and I doubt if the knight can move quickly enough. As to the comment above about the weight of real weapons, in many cases they were much lighter than we'd expect. Decades ago there was an exhibit from Spain at a museum in San Diego.. a entire table of 6 foot swords like in El Cid... I reached out and grabbed one by the handle and lifted it a few inches, just to check the weight, then set it carefully and precisely down. I looked up to see museum guards converging on me from all sides. They didn't expect a jr high school girl to be THAT interested in weaponry. It was embarrassing. Carolly the Curious
parhaps many of you didnt visit the actual gallery image, and read the little story to it, or my previous image which shows alot more into the troll in my fantasy universe! anyway, I have decided on the next image, unfortunately for all you comedians out there, the tree doesnt win (I was EXTREMELY tempted) but I wanted to keep it more serious I'll post a smaller version here when its done, and of course the full version, and the story of the action in my gallery

oh, I have 3 replica swords in my possession, and each are created as they would have been in the olden days, with the proper materials, and the two handed long sword weighs enough that any though of fighting with it one-handed would quickly fade away after a swing or two. japanese-steel on the otherhand is so light it's like its not real! now THATS a sword!

Going on the picture..that looks like whats called a 'bastard sword'..long enough in the grip to be used two handed..but mainly meant to be used single handed..also blade style is designed to be used against armour..stiff, diamond section for punching hrough plate..not really a cutting weapon..real life weight..prob no more than 5-6 lbs on average. My money..the Troll being relatively lightly armoured..he'll prob move faster and that mace would crush that armour :)
