If you like modeling a lot (unconventional way) than Z-Brush, but prepare yourself to be blown away (steep learning curve for clasic modelers, expecialy ones with nurbs background)...also, graphic tablet is almost a must with it...
Vue, what I heard, has a similar learning curve as Bryce has (bit steeper, maybe), and it's more rendering oriented, modeling capabilities are equal to Bryce :P
I heard good and bad things about both rendering engines (they are almost compareable), so you gonna have to do some more research in that field...eco-systems are very nice, that is why V5I is gonna be my future rendering app, I already have a very solid modeling software, SILO ! :D I think, your choice would be Vue !!! :P

Good luck with Zbrush...I have 1.55b and I still suck at using it.But both the version I have and version 2 need a massive overhaul to the gui(and the camera system). If the "strange" process' of manipulating the views and all the (almost unessesary) extra functions dont bother you, Its a wise investment to say the least.I take it you have tried a demo right? Anyway, Zspheres are cool...so good luck..

I personally do not feel that I'm ready for such a shock yet, still need to master lotsa stuff in Sub-D modeling, expecially characters, i did only 2 and 1/2 till now :( Z-brush is on my list for a future, but after I purchase good rendering app, looks like that's gonna be Vue 5 Infinite, just hoping they are gonna implement displacements soon...:D
Personaly, I find sub-d modeling far easier and more effective in the long run.Sometimes in Zbrush I would sit around and tweak endlessly because I couldnt just ...you know, select the points/poly faces and put them in a proper arrangement right off the bat. There is no such thing as good poly flow in Zbrush. It doesnt really matter if you are only using the high rez models to make a displacement map, but I found thats almost the only reason to have Zbrush.Which I fould out I can do just as easily in Photoshop(by painting a disp map over a UV map) or do it directly in C4D using BodyPaint(in real time). You can do that stuff in Maya if I recall as well(although..not the PLE version).

They hardly do compare with each other, they're completely different applications, so why compare them at all?

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

Good luck, i would have choosen Vue! With Zbrush2, ive come to the point where i dont even want to open up the damn thing. I would risk killing somebody. Try something as simple as re-selecting your model after loading it in, and youll see what i mean. (a 64-step tutorial for this can be found at Z-brush central) And now with Maxon releasing a 64-bit version, theres really no reason of using Zbrush, unless youre a hardcore character/organic modeler.

I hear ya. I really dont doubt that its a great app, but whats the point of turning even the simplest of moves into rocket science? Its only irritating.

Unfortunatly love slowly turnes into hate after a couple of hours with Zbrush... :D

But download the Zbrush practical manual if you havent already. Basically a must-have if youre serious about learning the program. Heres the link, although you must create a member account at Zbrush Central(free), to download it.Rudolf Herczog

Thanks I already did.... The Problem you were talking about might be because after you deselect the Model it goes to 2.5D and you then cant reselect it...? I was Browseing the forum and stumbled upon that tidbit and thought maybe that might have happened in your case,So maybe there might be a setting that you can select that will keep the Model in 3D until you release it...? I do Plan on Learning the Program and I also Plan on bringing alot of my Characters into Bryce and MayaPLE for insertion into the Unreal Engine...Truespace will be a starting point for my already modeled Characters until I can get the hang of the Zspheres...
That might be the problem. Problem was when i worked with Z-spheres and tried to tweak the model. After browsing through the ZBC, i got some explanations on how to get it back(the 64 step tutorial for example), but once loaded, the stuff produces clones of the first unfinished object, which is untouchable for further tweaking. After a day or so with this idiot feature, i closed the program and havent opened it since. Im all for learning the tools, i know it takes time and thats totally ok, but this is about selecting an object for further work. Its kinda like loading a Bryce scene, and dig through 49 menus to select a single cube. I mean, whats the point? I might pick it up some day again though, but right now, its my favourite dust collector. :)

Then the only way to get something changed is to Yell louder... I am all for yelling louder to get something changed especially if it helps us Brycers out in the long run... And I will yell just as loud towards Zbrush too... Yes I will learn and I most likely will fling things in fits of fury...But hey I lost major amounts of time on my Wizard character that I built in Truespace6.6 and then Imported into MayPLE and then of course into Unreal Turnament 2004,I was alway forgettinbg to save and I would eventually go thru maybe 7 different versions until i finally came up with an almost finished character...
Rochr..It's a shame it didn't click with you..I'd love to see what magic you come up with using the app.
Cheers
Stefan
