Subject: I'd like to hang some posters on my walls

CowboyBozo ( ) posted Tue, 24 May 2005 at 12:50 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 6:52 AM

Intuition says the way to do this is by putting a jpg of the poster on a square primitive as a texture and then put the square on the wall... Am I headed in the right direction?

Yep, that's exactly right.

Watch out for the specular value. Depending on the lights, it's easy to lose some of the image in a highlight. I generally crank that down to 0.1 or so.

If you use the prop box z-scalled down you can magnet some bend to the corners... spheres z-scalled down as thumbtacks.

Thanks! Looks like I have to adjust the Diffuse value too.

I have a cheap an nasty poster prop if its any use to you. 30x20 inch put your own pic on... with transparent tape which allows wall color and poster to show through.

All the artwork on the desk in this pic was done by mapping pictures to the Poser One Sided Square, then adding tape to the edges in (I suspect) the same way as Ziggie. I didn't alter the Specular Value, just the Specular Color to black.

Doh..! I did mine the hard way and modelled it in Carrara. I knew I dun done summink wrong. I didn't use a Speculum, so I guess its still chrome plated.

How is the transparent tape made? This is great, by the way. I'm making something along the same lines myself. Thanks.

I guess the easy way to make a poster inside Poser is to: 1. Use a one sided square (sized) for poster. 2. Assign a material name to it. 3. Use 4 smaller one sided squares (sized and angled). 4. Position them in the corners and offset them a teensy bit. 5. Assign a material name (the same) to the 4 squares/oblongs. 6. Export as one obj. 7. Import the object. 8. Apply pic to material assigned to poster. 9. Adjust transparacey settings for material assigned to the tape squares.
