Subject: Necessary Files in Library... Poser 6

DVTVFilm ( ) posted Mon, 30 May 2005 at 11:34 AM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 8:43 AM

My library seems to have several identical files for several items I have acquired. Some say P4, P5 and PP. (thumbnails look identical...) I'm working with Poser 6 (Mac). Can I delete the files that seem to be duplicates of items apparently compatible with older versions of Poser? And, if so, which is the best version to keep for Poser 6?

they are different files, but optimised for different poser versions, e.g. the P5 file takes advantage of features not available in P4 but the P4 files is included for those users without P5.

So, are you saying keep everything and don't fool around in the folders? Or since I'm using Poser6-- then delete apparent duplicates of item files under Poser-5 level.... since POser 6 would rather use the P5 optimized file over the P4 or PP version...

I'd love to know the answer to this. I've got the same problem with my Runtime. KRISTTA

Usually P6 Files > P5 Files > PP Files > P4 Files.

You can safely delete the p4 and PP ones and just keep the P5 ones.

One of the first things I do when I install something is to delete all the P4 files. They are actually dangerous in Poser 5 and Poser 6 because a lot of them ask for missing .bum files and this can hang your system. Apparently Poser 4 had the ability to create .bum files, but they aren't needed in Poser 5 and Poser 6. PP files are safe to keep and can be used in Poser 5 and Poser 6.

Same, if I get a DAZ item I right offf the bat delete teh p4 folders, if there is no p5 then I keep the PP folders cause they are the most compatible with p5_6
