Subject: Save bones for loading later?

I have a figure that I have created. I imported into poser, made a skeleton for it, and now I see that there are parts of the mesh that don't work. e.g. he can't put his arms all the way down or turn his head very far because bits of the armor get in the way. I would like to go back to the mesh, and edit it to fix those problems. I don't want to redo the bones though. The figure won't really change all that much. I just need to push a few vertices around. How should I do this? One way that I can see is to just save the skeleton. Start a new poser file, import the updated mesh, and then load the skeleton. I just don't see how to save the bones. doh! This is for Poser 5. Thanks for looking.

The bones are saved along with the CR2. Also, the Setup Room will save a copy of the mesh in the same folder as your CR2 (and the CR2 will also point to that copy). So what you can do is edit the mesh that Poser saves in that folder, and go from there. Being that the CR2 will already point to it, your library file should load the edited mesh in automatically, and apply the same bones to it.

I haven't put it into the library. Should I do that first?

Yup, go back to the Pose Room, and save your figure to the library. That will also save the bones you've created so far.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, so I did that. Here are the files that are new or modified within the last day under my runtime folder.

      0 Jun  9 10:15 ./libraries/character/New Figures<br></br>

 267931 Jun  9 10:15 ./libraries/character/New Figures/shock-trooper.cr2<br></br>

   4383 Jun  9 10:15 ./libraries/character/New Figures/shock-trooper.png<br></br>

8982388 Jun  9 10:14 ./libraries/character/warg.obj<br></br>

    821 Jun  9 10:15 ./prefs/LibraryPrefs.xml<br></br>

 234976 Jun  9 10:06 ./prefs/Poser UI Prefs_1280x1024.xml<br></br>

   1024 Jun  9 10:07 ./prefs/Poser.ini<br></br>

I had originally tried to create a new folder to store him in, and that just stored him. So I deleted that figure and found a new place to put him. One odd thing though is the location of the the obj files is weird. the cr2 file refers to it correctly though.

version<br></br>
{<br></br>
number 5<br></br>
}<br></br>
figureResFile :Runtime:libraries:character:warg.obj<br></br>
actor BODY:1<br></br>

Can I move the .obj file and update the reference in the cr2 file?

So now the next step is to modify the .obj file. Start poser and pull the figure back in correct?

Thanks again.

When you first save a character Poser puts a copy of the obj with the characters name in the character folder. You can simply edit the line figureResFile :Runtime:libraries:character:warg.obj to read figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:your folder name:warg.obj don't forget that this line is found in two places in the cr2 file. Edit your obj in your modeler resave it with the same name and the cr2 will load it with your established skeleton the next time you call it up in the workspace. Remember that if you have morphs you cannot add or delete vertices when you are editing it or the morphs won't work anymore
