Subject: Need suggestions on hair making

Greeg72 ( ) posted Sat, 10 February 2001 at 6:02 AM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 11:41 AM

I need some suggestions on what programs are best (or easiest) to make simple animehair. I currently have lightwave (and poser 4), but I'm more used to making bigger objects with that program such as buildings. If anyone has some tutorials on how to make hair in lightwave, please send me that way. Please DO NOT tell me where I can download some anime type hair, I need to learn how to make my own so I can produce many different types. And please don't tell me about post working hair, I will be doing things in real time, so post work would be to hard to do, and would take very long. So if you could list some programs and the price they may cost, and maybe even a few tutorials for those programs on hair making, thanks goes out to you. Greeg72

Thank you once again, but I am looking to making hair in a 3d program, please read my message a little more clearly. Drawing anime` is something I'm very good at, so I don't need any help there.

Get Rhino 3D. It is very easy to use and the learning process is quick and easy. Just work your way through a few tutorials and you will be creating all kinds of things you never thought of. Hair can be done at least a dozen different ways in Rhino depending on what you want. I think you can download a fully functional trial version that is good for like 30 days. I am unfamiliar with Lightwave, though I have heard it is the best thing since sliced bread unless you go for the big huge dollar programs like Maya etc... Ya sure you cant do it with lightwave? Rhino has a sizeable pricetag but nowhere near Lightwave.

Since you are here on Renderosity why not do a search for hair tutorials. Since I have done this myself, I know that there are a few there.

How does "Anime" hair differ from "Normal" hair?

Anton's link might not be what you're looking for but I enjoyed it. :-)

Greep72, The modeling concept is the same for this style of hair as it is for drawing. You said that you are very good at drawing ahir and you obviously can afford lightwave so what exactly are you looking for the tutorial to explain that you don't know already? Just extrude or sweep a shape along the same path you would use to draw the lock. The link I sent you is good for modelling because it breaks hair structuring down to it's basics. Unlike almost any other style of hair, anime hair is both modeled and drawn using the same approach. I hope this was more helpful. :) Anton Kisiel

PS: Nendo is $99, downloadable from the web and perfect for this type of project although Lighwave does all the same things and more. There are no applications currently for specifically modeling hair.

I just got done downloading the trial version of Rhino (haven't tried it just yet). Anton Kisiel - Drawing and modeling is very different to me, and as I said, I'm more used to doing bigger things in lightwave. Kevin - The difference between "anime" and "normal" hair is that most anime hair is spiky (not all). Depends on the persons style... Thanks for all your help Greeg72

Greeg72 ( ) posted Mon, 12 February 2001 at 5:15 PM

I know a few people who want to see what I can do, in lightwave and poser. I'm working on so many projects right now though, so I don't really find much time to do my own art work. This week I'll be really busy, but that's more personal than project work... as for the looking at other models, I already have (or am doing so). There's not very many anime` models though (from what I can find). I got some pretty good ideas I think yesterday on how I can go about it, but I'd still love to read any tutorial that you'll make. BTW, free time is usually eatin up by my girlfreind... not that I mind :P Greeg72

sorry for the lateness of my message but i have been extreamly busy and regret to say im unable to help with a tut as i will busy for some time yet but you should be able to learn a lot by looking at the anime cartoons as even lookign at them study how the hair is it is very simple to do thou what you could do is make a cone and then cut it into a few sections maybe 8 and then use the bend tool or move points around untill you get the desired look
