THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 5.5 and priority

Hello, I am running into the following problem: Bryce 5.5 readjusts itself to normal priority (task manager) all the time I start a render. Is this how DAZ speeded up the render times? I am used to work with several applications at the same time and it is annoying to switch Bryce down after each test render. Has anybody a solution? Regards, Volker Haroon

Now I'm no expert on computers or programmes but, I have also found by using the task manager that bryce changes back to normal priority when I try to use another programme. This could be Windows itself and nothing to do with Daz. I have tried to up the priority to above normal in the TM but it seems not to work for long. I will be following this link for help too! Marc ;)

"Normal Priority" is, well...normal. Am I correct in assuming, that it sounds like from what you are describing...you are setting Bryce to "BelowNormal" or "Low" as you "work with several applications at the same time"? *Resetting a programs priority will stay that way, only if you MINIMIZE the Taskmanager, don't close its window. Well, I am used to minimize the task-manager by now ;-) Bryce 5.5 resets itself to normal priority each time I start a 'Clear and render'. It is annoying, as even programs with not much need of resources (firefox for example) have problems working correctly. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2800 with 1GB of RAM which is sufficent for running Bryce5.0, terragen and PhotoshopCS at the same time. Bryce 5.5 ruins it though. Regards, Volker Harun

Yeah, you have enough ram for all that, I'm usually using Bryce 5.0/5.5, Photoshop CS, and a couple other small progs. Are you setting Bryce above Normal or below? Setting it above normal will naturally cause the slowing or freezing of other programs, that's just how I've always seen it work. I tried your problem on my PC, and the priority stayed to whatever I put it at, even while using the clear and render button. Strange. I'm about the same; AMD Athlon 64-bit 3200+, 1Gb of ram. (Windows 2000 Pro) AS

Hi AgentSmith, I set it to low - of course ;-) I am using Windows XP Pro. Maybe it is an XP-issue. Maybe it is due to running the system as admin (our network configuration is awful) ;-) Regards, Volker Harun

Probably a Windows XP together with Bryce 5.5 issue, lol. Sounds like something DAZ might want to put on a list to investigate. ;o) AS
