pakled - just load them into bryce and use the disp maps as height maps in the terrain editor - looks pretty decent to me.

Hey stone. Yeah, was going to mention that pidjy had one or two of them in the bryce forum. Its an amazingly simple way (disp maps) to do greeble on space ships.

Flak..just curious, does bryce do ZDepth renders? I'm finding another way to make these displacements look better is using ZDepth renders of all the elements...it gives the perfect sense of depth to displacement. perfect for making sculptural reliefs of figures. Poser can do zdepth renders with alot of fiddling too I'm doing mine in zbrush though. Cheers Stefan

Bryce has an altitude mask... useful for making height maps of things as you look top down on them.... sounds like what you're talking about.

Thats one of a cone, ball, cube, pyramid... sculptural releifs - yeap - I've seen a few of those. What you can do, once you've got the relief/altitude map is wrap it around a cylinder in a mesh editor to get a stone column with figures carved into it.

"altitude mask" that's it "once you've got the relief/altitude map is wrap it around a cylinder in a mesh editor to get a stone column with figures carved into it." yeah I'm working on something similar..just posing all the figures is gonna take me forever, lol here's one made using zdepth..I'm surpised how clean it looks rendered in P6 while only using an 8bit jpg

Thank you!

Whoa! Kick ass! I'm stuck in P4 too, but I do have Bryce! So maybe displacement is an option for me too! happy dance How does one use displacements in Bryce? Can it be used on Objs too? If so, I've some Egyptian texture obj makeovers to do! =D~ bB

gagnonrich ( ) posted Fri, 15 July 2005 at 5:49 PM

It does remind me that it's time to play with displacement maps because this is awesome! I think a nice Gigeresque look could be achieved fairly easily with displacment maps.
