Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
One 3D program can make any kind of mesh. Everyone will recommend to you their favorite. I'm using Blender 3D, and it's main feature is that it is a free download, and a pretty good program for free. It has lots of tutorials, except in the area of making Poser clothing- I might fill that gap soon though, I've been using Blender to make clothing.

Try all the demos and Free apps that you can. What works with ease for one person, may not work well with you. I use Shade and Wings together. Wings, to me, is still easier to do some things, where I find Shade does other things easier. I could never get the handle on Truespace. Guess thats why there are so many different apps.
There's also Anim8or and Milkshape, both free.

Lightwave 8.3 and VueInfinite for $995. (limited time only) Combined with your existing Poser and paint packages you will be set for years. I know it can't compete with free, but if you're looking to purchase I don't think it EVER gets better than this.I've only been modeling for a few years and started with trueSpace - a solid modeler. In the long run, I discovered that it didn't meet my needs for "organic" modeling and added AM - a spline modeler. If you want to do things with curves, you'll find a spline modeler (like AM or the free Anim8tor or the price-y Rhino) virtually irreplaceable. On the other hand, I've found that a solid with modeler with good boolean functions helped me get off the ground in the first place, and is a good place to start for most man-made straight-edged objects (like many props). But I found the single greatest problem to learning modeling, in general, was that all the software and manuals assumed the reader already knew what they were doing. Whatever modeler or modelers you settle on, find a user group, read the mail, read the tutorials, ask a lot of questions. Mark

There is Phil's tutorial CD to make Poser clothing. I think based on Truespace (see free link in post 4).Try the Modeling forum here, and download all the free modelers in the title..;) I'm mainly Wings, but have been using Blender as a tool to do some things in Wings that ordinarily I can't. Blender is very powerful, but confusing to use (at least at first, I'm told. I'm still in the 'confusing' stage..;)

Do not forget Shade. If you bought Poser6SE, it came along with your purchase. And of course, Silo
still hooked to real life and enjoying the siesta!

You may be surprised at what you can do in Poser. Look at Geep's house tutorial, it's what got me started. Don't forget UVmapper; as part of making a good model, rather than a use-once quickie, is making a useful UV map. I started with anim8or, and still tend to use it for tweaking a mesh. But Wings3D lets me do other stuff more easily.

I'd very much like to get into modeling for poser - especially dynamic clothing, but furniture and whatever else as well, to fill the holes in my prop collection. What software do I need? Do I need different programs for, say, making clothing props and making coffee tables? Is there a tutorial out there to get me started? I'm a total newbie and not even sure what I'm looking for to be able to search for it. A little bit of guidance would be very much appreciated! Thank you. :D
