Well, it's better than a plague on both your houses. :) From time to time I get roundly sick of "How do I transplant Victoria's head onto a donkey's body" and so forth. Y'all supposed to be artists, right? Right? So, tell me, and everyone else, which are your greatest works of art here and why. Guidance and explanations of the imagery are very much welcome. Last time I did something like this I found a whole hell of a lot of very interesting and wonderful images, a lot of 'em off the beaten track. BTW, a step by step of your whole gallery is good, if that's what you want to do. I'll post up a commentary on my own pics at some time soon. Feel free to point and laugh.

OK, I'll offer my render "The New Girl."

http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=997411&Start=1&Artist=linkdink&ByArtist=Yes

Between a P4 render and postwork, it turned out fairly realistic. Frankly, I think it was a bit of a fluke, as I haven't been able to reproduce the postwork or the overall feel of the pic.

I think the reasons this image works is 1) a beautiful face morph ("Lany") and skin texture by idler168 (formerly B-Man); 2) beautiful, realistic "Sapphire Fox" hair by Quarker, with a nice texture by Firebirdz; 3) matching texture/bumps on the gloves and lace-up teddy; 4) posing the hands in a way that provides depth to the picture, and draws the viewer in; and 5) I used "Overhead" lights from Blackhearted's Pro Luma lightset that just happened to flatter all of the above.

Postwork was skin tone tweaking, gamma, lipstick painting, a bit of highlight to the cheeks, and adding some grain and noise to give everything some details.

Thanks, SamTherapy, for giving me the perfect excuse to talk about myself!

I guess I have a few faves in my gallery that I like. It's kinda hard to pick 1 or 2 lol but anyway I tried. First one is this http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=981970 I like this one because it reflected my mood of the day. Someone had hacked my friends puter and sent me a instant message telling me he had been killed in a car crash but after a few days of grieving we managed to get hold of him and I found out he was safe. That was the relieved bit....then as time went by it started to sink in what had happened...and that was the end result. I was made up with the way this turned out because I started using poser in January 2005 and was made up that this turned out looking okay and represented how i felt. I cant remember what I did though lol Ive slept since then. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=997297 (slight nudity) this one i like cause it was different. I seem to like different more than cutesy. Took a lot of time working out the lighting and then I postworked the lighting a bit more in psp7. and finally my latest.... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1003584 (nudity) I like this one cause of the pov and also I like the extra wounds I did. The main wound on her breast to her belly button came with the character but I did all the rest. Lighting took me over 2 days to work out and even then I wasnt satisfied so I took it into psp7 and postworked it. That and the wounds were the only postwork I did. Thats it i think lol. Sam you are down as one of my fave artists and have been for a while. Your gallery is awesome. link, that picture is amazing. Gonna try to remember to check out the rest of your gallery later. I got to get ready and go swimming now lol.

At the moment, my own favourite picture is one in my series of attempted photorealistic renders, Photorealism 9 but I also like my pic The Dursley Family Album because I think I managed to capture a fair bit of emotions in that one :o) Great idea witht his thread, Sam. Last time I got to see a lot of pictures I wouldn't have and I'm off now to look at the ones people have linked to this time :o)

Well yes, a commentary on your gallery is far preferable to a plague on both your houses. LOL, at least I think it is! Some great looking images listed here so far. Anyway my turn to share eh? Dunno if they're my greatest works of art, but these are the ones I'm fond of for whatever reasons. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1003578&Start=1&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes My most recent image. I like this one because I actually finished it, despite various small but annoying problems that came up. I also made more use of native Carrara features than I normally do. And I like that big @$$ gun! :) http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=842627&Start=25&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes This one is strange I know, but it was FUN to setup. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=605087&Start=37&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes I resisted their call for a long time, but eventually I fell under the sway of Littlefox's evil critters. This is another image that I just remember being a lot of fun to do. And I'm kind of proud of the posing and body language. And I was really pleased with the end result of my photoshopping. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=576770&Start=37&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes Err what can I say, I just kinda fell in love with Kashmira. I think her eyes came out really well in this one. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=520727&Start=61&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes I love my martial arts movies, especially when I was a kid growing up. As a side note, this one almost killed my computer at the time. I think it might have been the set prop. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=476579&Start=61&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes This one is probably one of my very favorites. It was partly an experiement, just to see how many people would view it based on the title alone. And getting my sphere guy posed properly wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be. And I always have a good time whenever I do a humorous piece. Anyway thanks for giving me this excuse for taking a trip down memory lane (and for blatant self promotion)! :)

Well, I don't have a gallery *here* right now, but I did for 4 years, and this pic doesn't really feature much Poser content, but aside from that it's a perfect fit for this thread... Just one of those quiet mood pics that comes up from time to time. I liked the blue palette, although I was doing a lot of those at the time I guess.

Interesting :) I wish more people do this; the galleries have become so clotted that I suspect you just cannot view most images as we used to be able to. I'm pretty sure we all suffer for that.

Anyway, here are mine:

  • Galatea:
http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=974433 I am a sucker for mythology, as anybody viewing my gallery will attest. I tried to make the stone subtle, just to hint at the transformation more than do a half and half straight off. I like the realism I got on the skin, and I'm also quite pleased with the lighting. Contains nudity, so no worksafe!
  • The Rope:
http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=918862 I love doing fetish-style pinups, and this is the second time I've revisited this. I went for artsy pinup, and I think I got the feeling I wanted across. More nudity.
  • Electrobound - Suited:
http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=927376 I love the lighting, and the fact that it feels there is a backstory for it. It was rejected from Epilogue with "blurry or smudged artwork". I'm still trying to figure out where they see the blurrs.
  • Lilith:
http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=363169 I can see problems with this image right now, the lighting was clever but didn't quite match the background. Anyway, it was a happy experiment, and resulted in an image that to me, feels quite dynamic. Another nude, but not much showing.

Enjoy!

I think my favorite of my posted work is "At the Poser Market," a composite I created for an essay on virtual reality; it's Gerome's "At the Slave Market" with three Poser "slaves" pretty painstakingly blended in. Compositing is tougher than it looks. For example, you have to analyze the light in the original and then duplicate it somehow in the patch; very tricky, and good training. I use compositing to practice with the graphics tools rather than to create eternal masterpieces. I have a Koshini series in which she is inserted, Gumpishly, into various works of French Impressionism. The best one is the Courbet, with her peeking over his shoulder while he paints something else. In the Courbet, I tried to give her hints of texture that made her seem "one of the guys"; in the other two, I stuck with the "real toad in imaginary garden" (Ow! Virtual whack on skull by Ms. K!). My own favorite composite is a joke based on Gerome's Pygmalion; not posted here, and I won't bother, after seeing Arien's gorgeous Galatea. I'd have to guess that my most popular picture (which ain't saying much) is Hell's Belles, posted as a satirical send-up of a rather silly serious gallery posting (and, less obviously, the constant complaints about how "ugly" Judy is). It might seem like most of the creative energy went into the caption, but actually I spent a lot of time getting the volumetric lighting just right. That was the "learning point" of the piece. Finally, the most fun I had creating a picture, would be "Koshini Is Moonlighting." It was the beginning of the Koshini boom, and as much as I loved the figure, I was getting tired of the "Oh, she's such a cutesy whewtsy!!!" talk, so I decided to do something cute but, well, a bit naughty in Koshi terms. It gave me a chance to use the Artist Studio I had picked up at PoserStyle and to work with a more complicated composition. Not mention getting Koshi naked.... M

This is my favorite. It portrays exactly what I wanted...2 imaginery friends in a strange garden. Also, the child figure's face does not look like a distorted adult, and, I love the textures on the griffen. It came out exactly like it was in my head.

I guess if there was one from my gallery it would be this one. There's images that I think are better, but this one came from a deep place.

On the other hand this latest image I'm pleased with because I've been really trying to shake off some creative stiffness conditioned by a lifelong career in photojournalism. I've struggled to find a certain rawness that I couldn't portray in the print medium and this helped me pull it out to some degree.

The link below, Dragon Mistress, is to my second favorite because getting that old dragon and the reins posed took forever. And another where I tried so much different lighting before I got it right. Ask me again tomorrow, and I'll probably pick different ones, but for today, these two:

In the Woods I just like how this turned out. A lot of little things worked out better than I expected. The dress texture (mostly material room nodes, so it was quick and easy). The lighting. The mushrooms on the tree (modelled at the last minute in Anim8or, because the picture just seemed to need them).

Leadoff Hitter Just because the Yankees pulled ahead of the Red Sox last night. :-) Unlike the first one, I really struggled with this one, mostly because it was my first P6 attempt. (Let's just say I made intimate acquaintance with the infamous "memory bug.")

With me my mood changes like the wind and I make whatever strikes me at the moment. I have a personal preference for creating images with men in them as probably seen with my Winged Male Wednesday series and that's where most of my current best images are from. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=969721&Start=1&Artist=tivao&ByArtist=Yes (Nudity sorta, he's curled up though) This is my current fav just because I love how the lighting and postwork just made this into something otherworldly. I can't really decide. But I think I'll go for "Fetish Portfolio II", the second most recent image in my gallery, posted June 2004. But decide for yourself. :] Fish

I'm not sure this is my best, but it is the door of a hotel... the girl is a prostitute...waiting for the "come in" command. there is a bit of technical going on, with the atmosphere and smoke. It has that dreary seedy hotel feel to it.

this is one of my better portrait renders, I think....it is a basic portrait, with a shade style background.

Well, explaining thing is not my strongpoint (as someone out there know already... :D), but my fav image is for sure "Pure Poison"... in fact it's the only image that i felt completely satisfied with - best thing i can think of as an explanation is because i love nagas and i got a good "dangerous" and "disturbing" mood (not sure about that last word - darn vocabulary is always useless! LOL!)

Excellent thread! Most of my gallery is about finding out what can be done with Poser, how lighting works and such. Not much art there. Two small exceptions:

Spider's view (nudity) This was a happy accident. I love the unusual lighting and camera angle. It's got a surreal feeling about it. Technically not the best. I'd love to do a remake, but recreating the POV with Poser's camera controls turned out a big pain.

Staring at the light (nudity) The only Vue image in my gallery. Was banned from a German site because of the display of pubic lips. I can stare at it for hours and wonder what it's about. :-)

Always great to go through these type of threads. It's nice to see some of the missed images and the why's.

I posted my fav in the other thread. I only have 21 images in 3+ years and the last one was for greed, Wonder Woman, which I'm sure a few of you can relate to.

"Favourite Flavour"
www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=382330
This has the most painted postwork I have ever done. By the time I was finished, the body was more paint than Poser. Mind, after doing this one, most postwork is a piece of cake. I used Gimp by the way.

"ATG Babe"
www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=698143
This one had the most layers I ever used on a single character. About 80 by the time I finished.

"Passion or Paradise"
www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=597548
This one was the layers, postwork and my discovery of displacement. My one modeled prop was the apple, which turned out better than usual.I had worked so hard on the lace shadows that I wrote a quick tut on how I did it, here in the poser forum.

Lights and characters are 99% mine, even if I give credit for a morph, it's just used as a base, most of the time.

Sorry, I don't know how to set up single links, so I just put in the link to take you to my meager gallery.
Edited to warn about possable nudity.

By far my best... Some comments though - the pink pony was supposed to look like a Poser horse, with fake wings, that was the genre. I purposly pulled the wing root sout so you could see the. You had to be there to understand what it was all about too. I also got in trouble with some of my customers on this one, but I was only trying to have a little fun!

I suppose my faves of mine would be: Sultry Sara. I just really like the way it turned out. Nice mix of toon and real. Another Log To Throw On The Fire (nudity). My first NVITWAS. More of a pinup type pic but turned out nicely considering the genre. Moonlight Serande. All the different elements seemed to come together better than I'd hoped.

Some of my favourites:

Please note that most of my Gallery contains nekkid women. I like art that is bold, often rather sexy, un-ashamed and that challenges the viewer. I also like getting character interactions into the scenes.

Anyone who finds NUDITY offensive please skip past the following links.

I wanted to get a feeling of being cared-for and tenderness into this image. The basic idea was sort of sleeping beauty. (Nudity Warning) Her Guardian

I really liked the way that this one turned out - in spite of major difficulties with the flattening of Victoria's thighs. The look was very important to the title. Some of the props and scenes that modelling artists create, are just amazing. Thanks to ratracer for this excellent room. (Nudity Warning) Predator Behind Bars

I always want my pictures to involve the viewer, so the characters need to seem real and need to be "aware" of the observer. I try really hard to avoid that dummy-stare look. (Nudity Warning) Carla is Dirty

I think this is my favourite "just having a bit of fun with posing" image. (Nudity Warning) Caught them playing Twister

I enjoyed looking through all of your chosen favourite images.
Thanks for sharing them and your thoughts.

I have to say that I have five that are near and dear to my heart. Most of them because I put a lot of work into them and I think it shows.
Raven Black was a Yule present for a friend and took about two months of "spare time" to finish. There's a step by step of it on my website here in case anyone's interested.

The Maiden Hell Comic Cover is another that pushed me past what I though were my limits. It's a cover for a small press comic book and my first paid (well not yet) work. Also a step by step here for that as well.

Alis Volat Propriis (She Flies With Her Own Wings) has become my signature image. I use it on my business cards and stationary. It was one of my first attempts at painted cloth.

Cheesecake in Red and Blonde was almost completely handpainted and one of my first attempts at something so extensively postworked. It came out almost exactly as intended in old Vargas style.

My latest gallery addition is a simple illustration but it also signifies a turning point in my artistic career. I got a freelance job illustrating children's books for an online publisher. This image titled only Illustration 1 Version 2 (for it's designated spot in the book) is me going off on a whole new style.

Damn I could go on about my whole damn gallery I think. But I'll stop after this last one.

A Study In Red came out a lot artsy-er than I thought it would, my first attempt at raytraced reflection and artistic fetish art. I still use it as a wallpaper on my pc :)

One other mention if you decide to visit my gallery is "Awaken" :)

This one is still my favorite. It's one of those nice simple little images that just has a feeling of being something more. I partly like the image because it grew from looking at the content I had and picking things that evolved from one concept to another before settling on a little girl looking out the window of a spaceship. This is the one image I've done that, whenever I look at it, it seems to mean something more than it ever did when I was putting it together. One of the sillier comments I received in another forum was that the girl shouldn't be standing on her toes because it logically made no sense since standing on her toes doesn't give her a better view. I shook my head because the comment came from somebody that wanted to be an artist. I've always wondered if a person, who cannot keep something of the child in themselves, can really be a good artist. A child would get on her toes because she's committing her everything to what she's seeing. It has nothing to do with logic, but with the emotional commitment that children make to just about anything they do. The image would be less interesting if the girl was just calmly standing by the window. This image is a good example of why I enjoy using Poser. You can play around with the program and do something that you unexpectedly enjoy. Other images I've done have been more deliberate where I often wrestled with the program to get where I wanted to go. This one literally evolved from nothing more than just putting elements in the Poser workspace and evolving the concept. Maybe it was the happenstance of the process that hooked me. Maybe it feels more like art to me because it wasn't deliberate. It beats listening to a modern art creator waxing eloquently about the symbology behind splatters of paint that quite frankly are less enthralling than the story behind the splatters.

(The link is to a 4Mb QuickTime movie.) My gallery isn't quite what I'd like it to be simply because the things I'm most interested in - animations - can't be incorporated into it by the Renderosity software. I wish they'd hurry up and integrate that ability so we could get feedback and share in the same abuse that the still artists have to deal with. I do have a couple of still pictures here but the thing I've posted that I'm most fond of is my movie "dude, you suck!" From an aesthetic standpoint it isn't very strong. It was rendered in P4 using P4 figures and P4 lighting - and not very good P4 lighting at that. I assembled the rendered elements in After Effects. I *love* the story it tells and the lesson it teaches. I think that lesson is an extremely important one to grasp - even in the non-business world. I also love the soundtrack I created for it. That was my first attempt at doing "heavy-metal-rap-wild man" vocals, and all things considered I think it turned out well. This isn't my best work aesthetically but it's among my best as a whole communication piece. P.S. Although I've linked to it directly in this post, it actually *is* in the Animation Outlet here. In fact, it's the very first animation in the Animation Outlet. I don't know how to link to those little buttons or I'd have linked to it there.
