Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 6:41 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Anybody Want to Beta FaceRandomizer V2.0?

What started out as an TkInter experiment turned into a major tool addition. Along with the functions in FR V1.0, FR V2.0 lets you save the MT values from two randomly generated heads. It will then use the saved values as the limits for newly generated heads. Since you can save the head MTs at any time, you can use the newly generated heads to limit the changes even tighter. I particularly interested in having someone test it on a Mac. The first ten folks that send a note to: bushi@spiritone.com will get the script to test. If you don't hear back that means I already have 10 testers. Don't worry though, it'll be in the free section in a day or two. BTW I know the hair in the image is messed up around the ear. I just threw it on since I don't like bald-headed Vickies. ;-)

Jeez, I'm going to have to buy PPP just to play with what you come up with, Bushi. You are still doing amazing work.

hi, bushi definitely me liking your any new py script.:)

Hey, thanks guys! I already have some ideas for more additions to this script so stay tuned. ;-)

Bushi: I don't have PPP and probably won't for some time, but I'd be interested in seeing a version which allows you to drop any number of head morphs into the hopper instead of just one or two, with the option to control what the total percent value is.

bushi ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 11:57 PM

Duane - In this version, ALL the morphs on the head get changed. The next version will include an option that allows you to select which MTs are used. Now as to the total percentage control, I'm not sure about that one. Could you explain a bit more what this would do?

one useful py would be to delete the wrong or redundent dials directly fom PPP withaout using external programs. TIA.

poserpro ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 12:38 AM

I finally got rid of the problem using RD5 when I tried to spawn Morph, the morph palette will hide behide the PPP, so we have to get it back just push the desktop button and the palette will be there, then pushing the py again, everything will be normal.

Pro - Yes, often you can do stuff in Poser with a script minimized. I have found it a bit twitchy though. That's why I've been recommending closing a running script before doing other Poser functions. You can already delete MTs in Poser. Just open the heirarchy window, select the view for all options, select the MT you want to delete and press 'DEL'. No point in re-inventing the wheel. ;-)

gee, why did I so count on py :P TIA for reminding this.

duanemoody ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 10:56 AM

Bushi: What I was suggesting was that if you have several morphs being blended, the total of their dial values would be no greater than 1.0 to avoid grotesque-looking faces.

bushi ( ) posted Wed, 21 February 2001 at 10:42 PM

duane - OK, I see here you're going now. 'The total of the dial values ... no greater than 1.0' looks like a good idea. It would probably be best to implement it as a optional mode. I also we're talking two ranges here. That would be, all positive dials adding up to equal or less then 1.0 and all negative dials adding up to equal or greater then -1.0. Now the problem is figuring out how to make it work. :-) Thanks for the feedback and the idea.

wow, bushi, were you in The Creator's class when he was making the Adam and Eve? Just one thing, eyebrows sometimes are not make it... But, that's ok, it is after all the face randomizer. Guys, it is very good for a fast facial animaton, even mimic is not that good

dunga - Thanks! The feedback from everyone has been good so I'll get this up on the free stuff page.
