Well besides the $5 I have had some problems with Epilogue.net and getting images accepted by them. So it sounds like you'd have to spend a lot more than just that to get anything in there.

You have to pay in order to submit content for something they plan to charge for? Meh, I have better things to do with my money.

First, I pay them for submitting my images and then they're going to sell them. What a great way to get rich from other peoples hard work.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

They use the justification of "...it also serves as a valuable resource for art directors and buyers to find the current top art talent. We distribute complementary copies to hundreds of qualified art directors and publishers to generate additional work and exposure for the artists selected for inclusion." They try to tell you that you'll make more to be in it than the entry fee, but that doesn't change the fact it's still a gamble that you pay up front without no guarantee of being included. It's a lot worse odds than in Vegas. And even longer odds than that some art director is going to pick you to do some work for them. Most of the time the copies they get just sit in a pile somewhere and maybe years go by before they pick 1 or 2 names from it. I wonder if you ask the artist that were included the last 2 years if they ever got any interest from being included what they would say? The odds are all on the side of the publishers since they've already made more on the entry fees before it's even published to more than cover the costs and then they make even more profits from the sale of it, most as vanity publishing from the artists that are in it and the friends they pursuade to buy it to get some of their art. So it's a great deal for the publishers but not so hot for the artists

Yeah, sounds pretty bad to me. Although it does seem that most of the contests that Renderosity lets me know about have a submission fee, so either that's the norm for contests, or Renderosity specifically targets those sorts of contests. I'd personally prefer to believe the former. =) I think that they should provide the artists involved with a commission on the sales. I don't think it's fair to ask them to return the submission fee if they don't accept your artwork (after all, they are paying the judges to look at it). As it is, though, it's definitely a good deal for the publishers. As for people looking at my artwork should it get published... well, it appears that most of the stuff they have is traditional artwork, which is definitely NOT where I want to go with my career. So even if I did get something accepted (a long shot anyhow), the wrong people would be looking at it. So, I think I'll refrain from submission myself. =)

Most "traditional" contests have an entry fee. Doesn't seem that odd to me. ;) Nevanna

"Most "traditional" contests have an entry fee. Doesn't seem that odd to me." In your country perhaps.... not in mine.

No not unheard of since a lot of them do it that way, but does just "tradition" make it a good idea to enter with that price and odds of success? Especially with the usual policies of Epilogue and their track record
