Brynna = bryn na. Feminized for Bryn, which means high place or hill in Welsh. My Wiccan name, which in full is Brynna Morgan... sometimes in forums you'll see me as brynnamorgan because either someone else has brynna or I've forgotten my password or whichever email addy I had to retrieve it with. ;-)

Daioh means great king in japanese. (I don't know if they really use this as a name, except in animes).

And about my username: it comes from a minor character in an anime called El Hazard. Animes are japanese but I don't know if Kyraia had the same name in the original. I only know the german version.
In German the pronunciation is very easy. The "y" is generally pronounced as " (u-Umlaut), and to speak with Francoise (sorry, there is no cedille on my keyboard :-)
but I know no English speaking person who is able to pronounce this correctly - although it is very easy once you realize that the pronounciation has nothing to do with the "u" where it comes from, but is quite close to "i" (or "ee" like in cheese).
So, the pronunciation is something like Krah-yah.

Kyraia actually is a female character, but in reality I am ... an alien

wee-zee, a nickname I've had as long as I can remember thanks to the The Jefferson's TV show. I've heard it so long now my given name just sounds silly to me. This thread was fun to read. It's cleared up some of the trickier names here :)

Im spanish. So you probably pronounce my nick as "ka-set". But I pronounce it as "Kah-seh-teeh". Try to think on burritos and cantina mariachi, but spanish (from Spain) pronounciation is less soft as mexican one, a lilbit hard (mexicans usually ask why spanish people sounds ever as if they were angry... sounds different)

Gree-bo easy really. Back when I was internet newbie and had zero imagination for my very first email addy (which I still have) I chose the name of one of my cats who obviously was named after Terry Pratchetts Greebo. Of course, in retrospect, maybe naming myself as a grotty old tom cat that shags and/or fights anything that moves was not the greatest of ideas. Especially as I'm female :) And just as a side note, I have the user name of Nanny Ogg over at the site that can't be named :)

Well, SnowSultan and kyraia, that explains why the most common "misprounciation" I get is "die-oh". And why a number of people who don't know me personally start off thinking I am Japanese and male instead of German-American and female. ;-)

I've been thinking about XENOPHONZ (charlie) and think I figured it out.

xeno comes from the word xeno. Or maybe it's a prefix or something. Anyway, it means "stranger" (also used in "xenophobia" -the extreme fear of strangers)

"phonz" sounds like "Fonz" which many of us recognize as Arther Fonzarelli, that icon of cool badness in the legendary TV show "Happy Days."

[In all honesty I think that email circulating the Internet about phonz being the Greek work for "poopydiapers" is even less accurate than the one saying "Bobasaur" means to bounce your head up and down over a small festering wound.]

Anyways, all this leads me to conclude that XENOPHONZ probably means "stranger cool badness."

Well, Daio, I don't know about German-Americans, but Germans surely would pronounce your screen name as "Die-oh", or even worse, "Duh-yoh". Actually, that's how the little voice in my head pronounces it. Now I'll have to change that habit, I guess.

SilverMage, with a long "a" as in "may". I had a client when I actively did web design who made me insane by pronouncing my company name SilverMage Concepts badly. She was trying to be impressive and "cultured" she always pronounced the "mage" like she was saying "Decoupage". Came about from my old BBS days of playing L.O.R.D.S, I played as Lady Warrior but when I was listed on some websites as a top player they came gunning for me lol so I changed my handle to RubyMage for my playing partner at the time and eventually to GoldenMage and ultimately to SilverMage, since I always prefer silver to gold. But when I came here it was taken, hence the "lady" in front of it.

I've heard mage garbled into madge, but never mahj. Urgh, heh. But then again, I am amazed at the number of people who just go blank trying to spell my last name. McCormick isn't a weird name :) So, I start spelling it for them... "Em, Cee, Cee"... "What, 2 C's?" Which doesn't help when we've just got through trying to spell my first name. Odf, my mother is German - immigrated to the US when she was 19 and she pronounces it "day-oh" or rather 'day-ah" - she seems to have troubles with the "o". I can see where people would think "Dai" should be pronounced "die" given the pronounciations of Tai Chi and Chai Tea but I pronounce it "day" and since it's my nickname/screen name, I can pronounce it however I want. ;-) But if someone accidentally ran into me at someplace and pronounced it "die-oh", I'd probably respond... after blinking in confusion a moment.

Daio, yep, the "o" is pronounced subtly differently in German. I'd probably sound much like your mother when I said Daio. :-)

There is only one "an" sound in banana, it is repeated.

I suspect the AN in Vilian should be pronounced about the same way as the AN in Franise but like Vilian said, there is no word with that exact sound in English. ;o)

My birthname was Rebecca Gilbreath (Galbraith). When I was 23 I bought a new last name and changed the spelling of my first name. I was Rebekah Blackhart. Black as in the color and hart as in a male deer. Then I met and married Les. I tried to get him to take my last name since I bought it, but he wouldn't go for it. Men. ;p --Rebekah--
