hi...im really not too good at ps...i would like to post a few images...but dont know how to make a thumbnail thats less that 15 k in size...i do understand some of the basics...like goin to image size etc....its just that i dont have the patience otr the time right now to study this....looked for a faq ...did a search....any one who could help me??? thanks Bob

Hi Bob, I will try to help...but I'm new to PS as you already know. But, I've been here for a while using thumbnails, so maybe I can help. I think I remember that you have PS CS2. Select Save your image for the web. I use the 4up window and usually choose the viewer's upper right hand side window. Change the size of your image so that the longest side is 200 pixels, the other side will automatically reduce in proportion. Next, adjust the quality of your image till the size registers under 15k at the bottom of the image window. Then Save and you should be ready. If I missed something, let me know. Sans2012, since I'm new to PS I like to learn from experienced users. In my previous programs, I used to resize my images before saving for web. With PS it seems redundant to do that in light of the ability to make adjustments within the process of saving. What is the advantage of changing the size of the image before saving for web first over adjusting it as part of the process of saving for web? Thanks, Suzanne

Then you can get the maximum kb for the size. I often have a small section of the original image for my thumb view. I guess that's why I wrote that. Sorry if I confused anyone=)

When I wrote size, I'm writing about pixils. Not file size.

I used to save "detail" thumbs when I did fractals, but haven't done that for a while, and not in PS. Bob may be interested in how to do that in more detail. Thanks, Suzanne

well thanks bonnie, suz, and sans...i discovered how to do it with everyones help...posted my first image with .gif thumb tonight...kinda a pain to have to make two ,but oh well...i used image size (i have ps cs) checked constraints and re-sample...then put in 200 pixels at the top(THANKS SUZ)...ps does all the rest... the little image pops up ...then save to web...used the top right as suz suggested...the jpgs were too big so played with gifs # of colors and or 32 vs 64 dithered and got all my thumbs down to less than 15k...saved to my upload file then when ps asks if i wanted to save the .jpeg changes i just checked no and dang if it didnt work.... bob

Great going Bob. Just want to clarify that to get the jpeg size reduction you have to reduce the quality slider and watch the the size at bottom of the upper right window of the 4up view. I usually don't have to go below 70% reduction in quality to arrive at 15k size of thumb, and usually I am in the 80's. At any rate, I will have to try the .gif procedure you mentioned to see what I get. Thanks for the option. Saw your first image in you gallery. Wonderful. I like seeing the larger view than I normally see on DA. Allows me to view more detail. Nice!
