Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 15 4:06 am)
Poser 4 uses .rsr files exclusively for thumbnails. Anything else is unknown by it. You'll need a third-part application (like P3dOExplorer) to convert the .png or other thumbnail image files to .rsr. For anything before Poser 6, the graphics card has essentially no bearing - everything was done on the CPU, not the GPU (OpenGL). Poser 6 can use OpenGL for Document Window display.

Here's my tutorial on the subject, which was written in the days of Poser 3/4, so should be about right.I know I'm being A-R, but I tend to do things manually; open the zip, sort by directory (far right), and copy and paste (and create folders) into each. Some 'automatic zips' just haven't worked for me..that reminds me..I gotta go see ISOP..thanks..

I always unzip files and even the Daz .exe files into a folder on my desktop... one file at a time. This way I can go to the folder and rename the extracted folders in the Library to something that I can relate to the product. I always put the creators name followed by the outfit name, and in the case of Daz, I put the catalogue number, and all folders in the library folder, for that particular item get the exact same name, so that I know it's all part of the same outfit/package. And in the case of things with multiple textures such as the MFD, in the poses folder there is one folder named for the outfit and inside it are ALL of the texture packages in their own folders again, named for the creator and with the texture package name.

"...I get a picture in the library, all the tools say that there is something there, but I have no image in the Poser window itself." If it's supposed to be loading a figure or prop then something's probably wrong either a damaged file or Poser has glitched and needs to be rebooted. I've had that happen before. Even the figure dropdown says the figure's there but it ain't. Can you give an example, listing the files in the .zip and where you have them located in Poser?

Let's see, lmckenzie, I'll do the best I can. I have a .zip called 'Braids'. They're supposed to be poseable. Anyway; I put the 'Braids OBJ'in runtimeGeometries in its own folder. There are two types of braids, and a .cr2 and and .rsr for both. I make a folder for those in the 'characters' library and put them there. This is when I get pictures in the library, but nothing I can see. There is also a .pz3 file and a PHI file that I'm not sure what to do with. Hope I explained that well, because I don't think I did. Let me know Ithkinlore
Sorry for the delay, been switching ISPs. The .pz3 file is a Poser scene file (figures, porops, lights etc.) you can load it either by double clicking on it from the folder or with Poser open, going to file->import->I think it's "Poser Document." You may have to change the filetype dropdown to select .pz3. to see it. I actually have this file and tried installing it. Make sure the .obj file is in a folder called under Geometries called Braid (Case Sensitive as the readme says). You should be able to load it by the above method for the .pz3 or clicking the library entries also works for me. If neither of these methods works, try exiting Poser and going to the GeometriesBraid folder and deleting Braids.rsr file. Sometimes the .rsr files get damaged and Poser will recreate them. The .pz3 just loads the twin braids hair so I'm not sure why it was included.

Ideally I know that when you extract files into Poser, all of the files are supposed to wend their merry way properly into the program so that you end up with a pretty little picture in the library to click on and use. My problem is that some of the files I've extracted dump everything into one file, and when I try to move them manually, I get a picture in the library, all the tools say that there is something there, but I have no image in the Poser window itself. I've even taken everything out, re-extracted the files individually where they should go, and I still get nothing. Am I doing something wrong, are could these be bad downloads? Or, could it be that if it's something made for a later version of Poser (mine is 4), would it just not show up in my program? One other question; Are 3d graphics cards used at all to speed up the usage of programs like Poser and Bryce, or are they mainly for gaming? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ithkinlore
