DAZ|Studio F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 3:44 pm)
I never had Poser 6 but P5 can be really frustrating :) Of course it has some complicated stuff going on in there but when I want to make pictures without breaking my head off with software quirks and moods I go for D|S :) it's simple, nice and most things that I use work in it (actually I am yet to find a thing I have that doesn't work there :D )

I have ProPak. Never had P5 or P6. Never intend to. I use DAZ "almost" totally. But I must confess at this point I use ProPak with some items, but only so I can bring them into DAZ Studio in the way "I" want. Once DAZ Studio supports Poser magnets (either built in or plug-in)Pro pak will hit the trash. I love D/S,though it does have it's own set of quirks, they aren't any where near as irritating as the Poser ones "for me". And the Interface wins hands up!!
As I always say, there are gonna be people who love it, people who hate it, and those that love both. I don't have Poser 6 yet, even with the new Amnesty it's still out of my reach right now, but, I plan on getting it. There are things studio can do that Poser can't (reflecting displacement is a huge one) and things that Poser can do that D|S can't (dynamic clothing/hair, mathematical shader nodes). Either way, whatever you go with is your decision. For instance, if I want to build an image with a lot of figures or props, I'll build it in Poser first, and then import it to D|S. It's not because D|S can't handle the building, it's just that my computer lags when I do it in D|S. ;). So, that was a long babble to say "It's totally your choice ;)". MS

Once DAZ Studio supports Poser magnets (either built in or plug-in)Pro pak will hit the trash. Where is that trashcan?! :) As you may already know, D|S 1.0 was just released and, lo and behold, the first commercial plugin (non-free) is a Poser magnet system! :)

That plugin is free with a voucher for those who participated in the beta. The voucher should show up on your account page. Unfortunately, I bought it before my voucher was activated on my account page=(kuroyume0161, Thanks for the news. I just got home from work & didn't know. I'm so happy the Dform Plug-in was one of the first and that it works on Poser Mags. If after install it all works well, today will be trash day for Poser. :-) lourdes, I also want to thank you as I had already moved the Dform-plugin to my cart and was going to 'purchase'it as soon as the 1.0 content was done downloading. Yahooooo!! It's freee. Hope you get your $$ back. Again thank you both :-)
lourdes, a lot of people did that, just send a note to Daz and they will fix it for you. I love Daz's interface. That said, I've been using Poser 6 more than I use Daz, mainly because there were too many changes and quirks in the constantly changing daz. I read somewhere that they are working on version 1.1 to get out the final kinks, and after that it should be pretty stable. I'll probably switch back to Daz then, as I really find it easier to work with. And just use Poser for the occasional change, or dynamic clothes, or if I want to use one of the plugins. (Wardrobe Wizard comes to mind) I'm very glad to see Daz finally coming out into official form!
Well, I'll add an update here - been using D/S since version 1 came out, and have tried the PowerPose addon, but not the others yet. I have to say I feel much more comfortable in D/S than in Poser. Poser may have a few extras that are nice to have from time to time, and I'm a little more familiar with their materials room than I am with D/S Surfaces, but that will just be a matter of practice. D/S is just so much more intuitive - there are a ton of ways you can set up the interface to find what is more comfortable - and what I find is that after doing a few renders in D/S, then returning to Poser to do something - poser feels so much more awkward. Yet the opposite is not true - after a few renders in Poser, switching to D/S is no problem cause D/S just feels so "right". Just thought I'd add that.
------- Oct 12, 2005 As a Poser 5 owner, I too have concluded that the DAZ Studio GUI is superior to the Poser GUI. Additionally, features like 'undo' actually work in DAZ Studio - such is not the case with Poser. The Poser software was 'tolerated' because it was the only option I knew of at the time. For me, the single 'favorable factor' for Poser (i.e. e-frontiere) is their technical support guy 'Colin.' When it comes to helping you with Poser, Colin is an exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable individual. You can see the result of my opinion in this matter in the following link (a post in this same forum). http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12356&Form.ShowMessage=2436914&Form.sess_id=52442450&Form.sess_key=1129151448 Ambassador -------

I owned Poser 4 for some time, upgraded to Poser Pro Pack, then obtained Daz Studio. Why I decided to obtain Poser 6, I am not sure, maybe I am just a conehead type of consumer, and should have my head examined.
I do have to say that once I started to get used to D.S., I thoroughly enjoy the interface (as opposed to the P4 one) and although there were a very few, minor irritations at first, overall, I still enjoy D.S. a great deal.
I have only just begun to monkey around with Poser 6; is it just me, or are the old points of irritation with Poser (at least for me anyway) worth battling with(they seem to have expanded to new levels in P6)?
I realize that there is obviously some amount of orange to apple comparison here; in light of P6 shade/texture mapping, rendering concoctions, new "rooms" etc. Just a note: being new to P6, does anyone actually use that hair room - I like the way it seems to work; if it is worth the eyebags of eventual comprehension? My initial renders are promising I have to admit.
All in all, I do not wish to be considered a whiner, and find much positive and negative in both offerings. My main question is one that may not be easily resolved - how many of you went to D.S. - without intentions of returning to the Poser wagon? Either happily or begrudging? Note that I posted this on the Daz Studio area?!?!?
