Subject: Bird Flu information campaign needs a little help

afrovisn ( ) posted Tue, 18 October 2005 at 12:10 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 5:06 PM

Need some cartoon type models for a Bird flu educational campaign directed to children any one know where I can find some "jelly baby" or tele tubie" models or any really simple cute kiddies type figures?

I've used the DAZ "Toon Kids" a few times. You can get a girl a boy, or a baby pretty easily with them, and they're easy to pose: http://www.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=232 There's also Kiki, who is normally portrayed as a girl but who makes a perfectly cute little boy, as well: http://www.runtimedna.com/mod/bcs/index.php?TopID=102207 bonni

Thanks Bonni, Checked them out but they are a bit too "real" for what we need. Looking for real basic stuff like a blob with arms and legs, super simple easy to understand and sexless. :o}) Its so silly I am embarrassed to ask around but time is so short and we need them like yesterday.

Doesn't Poser5/6 have toon kids in it? I believe there are, they aren't very detailed either... from what I recall. You might also consider the Daz eggbert and hatchling phoenix for the bird characters - if you're including any. I think ernyoka1 (TG) also has a toon bird available, real cute and would work well for what you're doing. Good luck and show us what you come up with finally. :)

DAZ little dragon can be a cute character for children... see the image I did with it: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=739043&Start=19&Artist=bonbonish&ByArtist=Yes I wish also good luck for your project...

How about something on that page?

Possibly something from that site (Toys and Games). I see a potato head, and jack in the box to name a couple.

How about Netherworks' "Scare Bear"? He's pretty cute if you don't put the bloody apron and hatchet in his hand. Plus there are a few really nice textures for him/her too and you can pose it.

How about something from there? I saw a cute cartoon cat on page 1 and a cute penguin on page 2. There is also some cute gremlins on Page 5. An adorable "Mr. Beanz" on page 7.

Here are a few drawings of what we are looking for in models. I know they are childish and silly but they seem to work. If any one has any ideas please send them along. We only have Poser to animate with and doing them by hand would take forever. Thanks for all the good advise and we have checked every link proposed so far.

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 18 October 2005 at 10:16 AM

I have not seen anything like that in Poserdom. (Though DAZ's rag doll looks a lot like the doll the first girl is carrying, complete with red dress).

I think you are going to have to either model and rig your own figures, or use something that's available, like Kiki or the Toon Kids.

Is this getting close? Might look better in a toon render mode.

Thanks again for the good advice. The little girl is great Ocham! Where do we get her? She isn't exactly what was proposed but could be very useful if we can't find the jelly toons. We have been dreading the possibility of having to model these little guys. None of us are that great on Poser. Imagine a mob of graphic designers and photographers bungling through something very urgent and important doing the best we can ( under a lot of preasure) and having to learn as we go. We don't usually do animations, but this stuff must get out and fast. Would anyone be willing to talk one of us through modeling the little jelly guys?

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 18 October 2005 at 8:40 PM

If you're new to Poser, modelling your own figures is probably too much. It's not easy. A lot of people who have been using Poser for years never learn to do that.

And you can't do it with Poser. You need a 3d modelling program (Lightwave, Wings3d, 3dStudioMax, etc.) Then you have to rig the figures so they're poseable. The learning curve is quite steep. I doubt you'll make anything usable by your deadline.

Maybe you can get someone to make them for you. For free or for pay.

You might reconsider the "jelly baby" design. Have you thought about what they will look like in 3D color? They'll look naked, unless you also model clothing for them (which is a whole 'nother headache.)

afrovisn ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 2:18 AM

Sounds like you hit the nail square on the head. We do have serious deadlines here. This stuff needs to get into schools and on the TV channels here as soon as possible. Sorry to sound bombastic but it really is a matter getting out information that can save lives. Do you have a URL for the jelly babies? maybe we can work with them some how. Bye the way any one have a model that could look like a virus ( kinda evil and nasty little blob) or what ever? Script calls for a boss virus and a few strong arm "boys"

I could be mistaken, but I believe that term was being used to describe what you are looking for..... blobs with arms and legs. I don't believe there is a company or site by that name that makes poser models.

:o{( hangs his head in shame. Right! Well I did admit that this place made Bedlum look normal. Sorry, just a lot going on and very little sleep these days.

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 4:09 AM

Have you checked out the links that I posted? If it's a rush like yesterday type thing and you have no modelling skills, then you may want to go with a different look for your figures. At first you were looking for a blob with legs and arms... generic, and now it's snow plowed into actual figures with gender. I realize it's an important topic and you are very passionate about it. However you may want to stop and think about what it is that you are really looking for, and then evaluate that against your time line. You may have to compromise in order to get your brochures out as quickly as you would like.

I just thought of some alternate type figures you could use: How about a cute monkey? I'm assuming that you are using those little conversation balloons, so the monkey could be talking to kids. Check Daz for their "Toonimals". There is an adorable Greko there that might work. All kids like lizards. Daz also has a little dragon that is cartoon-like. Or a Lamb Whatever you choose could be your "mascot" and "spokes-figure". You might even branch it off further and if you do speaking engagements in schools, have someone dressed up as this critter. Kids relate well to furries. Just some of my thoughts on the issue.

Actually the figures we posted above are the ones we would like to use as they fit with the print and TV ideas. No gender just simple blobs like those above would be nice if they had some color in their "Pajamas"

afrovisn ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 4:51 AM

Ah just realised I have been forgeting what this is for. We are doing national level Bird flu educational campaigns in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. So these little guys will get around in all sorts of media. The fact we have so many different facial features and colors here makes a nutral figure better for our use.

Would something like this work? I am still working with her joint parameters.

afrovisn ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 10:34 AM

Lonni thats beautiful! Yes it works just fine. Will we be able to move the lips? Thats fantastic in fact one of the guys here says if your a girl he owes you a big kiss and if your a guy he will have his girl friend do it for him. You have us really excited now.

barbie4364 ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 11:31 AM

I can do some morphs for the mouth. I thought maybe a closed smile, frown and an o shape. Let me know if you need others. Almost done with the joint parameters. For the boys will this shape work with different hair? I noticed in the picture that they have longer legs than the girls. Also, do you have a sketch of what you have in mind for the virus? I'm not the best modeller but I'll give it a try. Lonni

barbie4364 ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 2:37 PM

Hi Afrovisn! I received your instant message but for some reason am unable to reply or send one to you. It wont go thru for some reason. The girl is done and poserized along with her hair. Because the boys legs are longer, I wont be able to morph the figure into a boy (joint parameters and scaling dont seem to play well together) so I will work on a separate boy character now. Shouldnt take too long. I will also work on the nurses hat and clipboard and the doctors glasses and stethoscope thingy. Let me know if you have a sketch of the viruses. Hopefully I can be done with the people part either tonight or tomorrow night. Hope thats ok. Lonni :)

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 19 October 2005 at 6:17 PM

Lonni, that's very nice of you to do those especially for him. The one you have pictured above is really cute.

I also want to mention you will be getting full credit for these guys every time they are used ( titles and the like) and we have ask the man in charge of our orginazations head office to send you a personal thanks. (You maybe surprised at who it is!) Thanks again from all of us poor paniced and over worked slaves.

Hi Afrovisn!

Here is a pic of the boy. He is now poserized. Will work on the mouth morphs tomorrow. I didnt see a message with your direct email - was it sent thru the renderosity instant message? I think it may have gone astray.

Will get back on this first thing tomorrow!

Lonni :)
