THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: wings knurling tutorial

Put this little gif together to show how to make simple knurled knobs/handles/etc in wings for use in bryce. Note: this should be done after all smoothing and bware, this creates a lot of extra polygons, so save beforehand in case your computer blows up. knurltut.gif An example image made using this technique: flashlightmadmax.jpg

Nice results, but also a bit of a "poly bomb" isn't it? If only Bryce will support displacement mappping in the future. Keeps fingers crossed that its a feature of Bryce 6.

bryce already does but only for landscapes.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Technically, what Bryce creates now used to be called a grayscale-to-height map, and a 1024x1024 terrain is over 2 million polys. Displacement could make the same terrain, but the result would just be a handful of polys. (comparatively) AS

Keeping fingers crossed that if it IS a feature of Bryce6 - I can afford it...

@marfx..get thee to the Wings tutorials here and find dracs' 'spaceship' tut..and a few others there..Wings is really a lot easier than it looks..even I can get results in it..;)
Never thought of doing this, but it makes sense..another point to make, tho, is for best results in Bryce, set the display to 'edge' (vertex, lines, whateveryoucallit), and select the knurls area and set to 'hard'..and the details will be there when you export the object..just a tip..;)

@Marc- I cut my 3D modeling "teeth" on Drac's spaceship tutorial and Wings made sense to me from that point on, so I can add to Pakled's recommendation. Now it's an invaluable tool for my Bryce renders, and a fun app in its own right. @Cardinal TheBryster-Sacrilage!!

I have just finished viewing it and your right, it does make total sense and I dont know how i missed it. I usually go to the tuts page and maybe not seeing a thumbnail there i skipped it..........shame on me! Thanks again and when i get Bryce finished rendering, i will try Wings out again with added hope! ;)

You could use that (shifting alternate edge loops) business to bobble up a flat surface too... couldn't you?
