In another thread I just saw a post from Roy G which was a name that I hadn't seen for a while and it got me wondering....

How many of you have membership back to 1999? (I think sometime then the server was changed and we had to "rejoin")

Be interesting to see who is actually still around and pops in to see what is going on.....

I'll kick it off with my join date - 16 Feb 1999

I've only been a member since 5/1/2000. My first Forum posting was 4/29/02.

But the important thing is that I've known both Doc Legume and Ironbear. It's the quality of the online experience that's important. Not the quantity.

[grin] And my first stupid post was the one on the link. (edited to add useless information)

Can someone clarify exactly why we all had to do the rejoin thing back in 1999?

As I said above - I thought it was a server change but I'm not too sure

I know. Ironbear still pops in once in a while when there's a crisis. I can't even pull up legume's name in the members directory. That's a miracle. I know people who've demanded to be taken off and been denied because "it wasn't possible with the software 'rosity has."

11/20.2001. I had just gotten Poser 4 (I bought it from daz) and I did a web search for poser websites and this was one of several I found, and the second one I joined. (PFO was the first one).
I had also just bought a Martian Manhunter action figure and it was standing on my desk in front of me as I tried to think up a user name...

April 2000 ... but I also remember logging in to poserforum.com .. and then eventually that URL didn't work any more and it became Renderosity.com I remember the Virtual Tavern, the Den, the OT Forum, and all of the other incarnations of "free chat" that have seen their demises. Ah, those were the days. 8-D

Well, I remember when the only place you could connect with folks was through the KPT Poser listserv. That was like 1997 or 1998 it seems.

Some interesting discussions in those days. KPT use to provide an archive of the emails from their AOL site!

My join date shows up as December 1999, but I know I was involved before that as well. I remember when the move to Renderosity came, and some of the political stuff that happened - battles over forum software, battles over content guidelines, battles over egos, I guess. :-) The breakdown of Poser Forum also spawned that more adult-oriented Poser site... now, what was the name? Render... Rendero... Something like that. :-D They've since branched out into too many sites for me to keep track of. I remember some of the other early free stuff sites, too. One of my favorites was called "Poser Fashion." I think I might still have an item or two of theirs buried in my freebies library. I alwasy wondered whatever happened to them - one day the URL just stopped working.

I doubt if you will find any Rendo m'ships earlier than Feb '99 - that seems to be the changeover date from Poser Forum to Renderosity....Or was it the change to the Bondware System?

So at this stage we have EdW a day ahead of me as far as THIS SITE is concerned...

Who can beat Ed?

But I know a lot of us go back before 1999...Shame the records don't reflect it.

Funny the things I bought back then. Actually I think the only things I have ever purchased in poserdom are mostly from back then. zygoteFaerie NudeMuscleMan Vicki1 These random names and things pop in my head thinking about back then Anson, HappyWorldLand, Willow and Ian, Jacketman, Eve, JeffH, FastTraxx and his java cam, Mobius, PropsGuild, KateTheShrew, Crescent... that's it I think. Fun stuff back then. Everyone was friends. That didn't last though. I can remember when very specific people arrived in Poserdom. Best part of being around so long is you get dirt on everyone. lol. March 12, 2000--I also remember PFO. One of the first other sites I remember was the combo of a pre-subscription PoserWorld and FairyWoods. Blast from the Past: I admit to being an inveterate pack-rat so no surprise this is the first time I've rendered the PWFW Byzantine Empire figures, circa 2000. Created by Renapd and some other classic folks per the readmes: * DAL & GREYLIGHT * TRAVELER * MASON * PHIL C * STEVE SHANKS * AKISIEL * HOKUSAI * HAPPYWORLDLAND & TALOS * WIREMONGER * GWAIGOR * HULIO CEASAR

Hey yeah! The faerie was seperate purchase. So were the two hue maps. Green and orange I think? I forget. There were no add-on packs back then. Clothes were fused to the models. Just one-offs. They were all pre-conforming clothes.

Even though I have been using Poser since version 1, I was totally unaware that there was this huge online Poser community until version 4 was out ... I lurked here for months, too, before joining, and downloaded tons of freebies that I still have backed up on CD's somewhere. I checked back through some old CD's and I do have downloads that date back to July 1999, so I do think I was lurking here then. Wow ... it HAS been a while! LOL

I believe I joined here around a year before they changed the server and we all had to re-join. I remember more then 1000 members in the forum at once would bring the server to a crawl (I think average at any one time then was around 300~400 on a busey day). I remember Fairywoods and PoserWorld, and I remember when they joined together and then fell apart and then closed their doors. I remember when PropsGuild was free and adding stuff at an alarming rate. I remember MorphWorld version 1 and the birth of Eve4 and the birth of DAZ and Bbay. And shall I dare say that I remember when wee fairies flew threw the forums without anyone even dreaming of throwing stones at one, and no one ever refered to other sites as "That other place". I remember when both Poser and Bryce were owned by MetaCreations then the coming of CouriousLabs and now e-frontier. I remember all the discussions of woe and doom with coming of each. I remember when everyone hated Victoria, the Stephanie the "man-woman", and how everyone blasted Victoria 2 but most seemed to like Stephanie Peteit. I remember reading Dr Geep's first tutorial and saying "WOW! Now it actually makes sense!". I remember the discovery of Tile Mapping in UVMapper, the little Easter Egg Steve Cox forgot to tell us about. Anyway, those are some of the things I remember. Now as for Anton's mention of "dirt"....do you really want me to dig up some more old stuff??
