Subject: Done a 'bad' thing, but bear with me

pakled ( ) posted Sun, 29 January 2006 at 11:12 PM · edited Sat, 18 January 2025 at 6:59 AM

Just posted a Daz picture, thought it isn't really mine..here's the explanation.
As I do with any new package I try out, I play with it for about half an hour, then post the results..if nothing other than to see how far I've come later on
I kept having things disappear from 1.2, until finally I was left with the rendering screen, and nowhere to go.
Granted, I did actually make some minor modifications to the picture, but my conscience has got the better of me. If y'all think this is cheating or dishonest, let me know, and I'll yank it. No need to go see it, you probably have already, but just wanted to know what the right thing to do is..

Well... Here's the thing... any time you take something and modify it, it starts to become "yours" ( if it's given/sold freely, with no rights hanging lingering)... the main question is how you feel about it... if you feel that you modified it enough to call it yours, then it "is"... some people feel that everything in an image must be generated by them, to be theirs... in some ways, it's it's a no-win question, because you can split hairs until you're saying that nobody here is presenting original work because they don't grind their own pigments and make their own paint.... and don't forget that you'd have to make your own canvas, too..... pretty much, it's a matter of your own conscience, and what it tells you. If you feel that this isn't "yours", then, indeed, pull it, but, think, a moment... how much DID you change?... sometimes, we get to the point that what WE call a minor change would take someone else hours of agonising. For myself, I feel it's up to you. Lou.

"..... and that was when things got interestiing."

Basically, I would agree...if the licensing is abided by and you feel good about it then it shouldn't be a problem.

No need to think outside the box....

believe me, I've made it quite clear on the picture that I didn't do it..;) s'ok..I'm still pretty new to Daz Studio, and I don't know the community that well yet..;) If I can get the 'leftmost' screen back, and the ability to load characters, etc., I should be good. I'm very impressed with the quality as it stands, and I want to use it with Bryce anyway.

I would reccomend that you remove the image. I'm not sure what you mean by "stock DAZ picture", but, if you didn't render it, even if you tweaked the image afterward in Photoshop or any other 2D program, it isn't yours to post. If you have the permission of the original artist, that's a different story. If you mean the content that comes with the program, the Egyptian content hasn't worked properly in D|S since...wow, way down the beta chain. The new Stock content is the Fairy Forest stuff. Creating images with the stock content is what the content is there for ;) As for missing menus, etc...what problems are you having? I'm sure we can help you out :)

I was also wondering how you got the egyptian content to load. For me, it stopped working with v1, then it was fixed with v1.0.1.0 and now, has broken again with both v1.2 and v1.2.1.
