THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Mouse wheel zooming?

marcfx ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2006 at 1:02 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 4:25 PM

After all this time using Bryce I wondered if its possible to use the mouse wheel for zooming in and out in a scene. I havent found anything about it and wondered if anyone else has done it? Marc

Nope. Doesn't work. Remember, when the majority of Bryce 5 was coded, wheels were not as ubiquitous as today. But it would be nice.

I'll add it to the ever growing wish list for Bryce 6! LOL

Bryce 6! ROTFLMAO! Ohh, that's a good one. I once saw me a mermaid. I think she was using Bryce 6. My prediction. Bryce 6 will come out right after they clone a human.

Hello all,
New to these forums but I like Bryce 5.5c alot.I was wondering about mouse functions too( i.e. wheres 3 button and scroll/zoom). I had a regular 3 button logitech mouse and wanted more precision and bought
a Razer Diamondback which has 7 buttons. I can now program 6 of these buttons to macro Bryce to zoom or
whatever, that made my use of the program very functional. Yes this is gaming type mouse and not cheap,
but I never see anyone posting about using these in 3d apps.

They are used but not by very many, since such mice as the Diamondback are $60, and most consumer users just stick to regular clicking of menus or keyboard shortcuts for free.

You more see the operation of using multiple button devices in higher end apps where there are so many functions, used so much, and when you can spend thousands on software, you can usually afford special input devices.

BUT...you bring up a subject that, I agree, has not been touched on very much at all...in fact, I have a Wacom tablet that I wonder if I can program the ExpressKeys to work with Bryce...(never thought about it)

I have the logitech Mouseman Optical and i am sure i was able to use the wheel to zoom in and out in Bryce...will let you know if it can be done once i get everything set backup on this PC, for now its a coffee break and installing other things on twp pc's..

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I too have a Wacom tablet but never thought about using it since its easier to click with the mouse on certain operations. It would be OK if there was a freehand drawing part of Bryce............again, wait for Bryce 6... LOL

In any ortho view, select the object you'd like to zoom in on. Left click and HOLD on either the + or - zoom button on the lower right of the screen. Now by moving the mouse to the left or right, you can zoom in or out on the selected object.
Not a wheel function, but close on results.
John P.S. In the Camera View, this will zoom in or out on the entire scene with the current camera direction, regardless of any selection of objects.

It would certainly be nice if the mouse wheel worked in Brcye - I use it a lot... in Wings3D. So when I've been doing a lot of working in Wings and then switch to Bryce, for a while I'm constantly trying to zoom in and out in BRYCE with the wheel. It'd be great if it worked.
