Subject: problems texturing in bryce

Hello all... I just texture one of my new ships in bryce 5.0. But when I move the ship so dose the texture.... dose anyone know of a way to stop this from happening... many thanks Darkness

Don't use ANY of the "World" settings for your texture wrapping. (World space, world cubic, etc, etc.) AS

Hmmm, what kind of mapping are you using Darkness? From the symptoms it sounds like you used "world space". If you import one of your Wings models a better choice would be to use "object cubic", or cylindrical. If you UV map your ship and import your texture map you should use "parametric".

funny, I've been told 'world cubic' works well on Wings models, but what do I know?..;)

well i've made it a bit more darker... and put a few cut marks in it so that it look like it been warm away... looking better... or dose it still need something else???

@Pak-only if you don't plan to animate the model.;-) @Darkness- I find that it helps to assign different color materials in Wings to the faces, or parts I want to texture with a different material when I import my model into Bryce. This is what I did to this model I built in Wings. You can even UV map a model, add numbers, letters and graphics and still assign Bryce materials to different parts.

Right DANAMO , i go with darkness , please tell us where did you find the outliner bar and how to UV map in Bryce ????

Sure thing. Go to the WINDOW menu, it's in between TOOLS and HELP. Click on OUTLINER on the drop down list. There are two materials there by default-"hole" and "default". Left click on the default material to select it, then right click on it and select DUPLICATE from the drop down list. Your duplicate material will be called "default2" until you rename it. Select the "default2" material and right click on it and give it the name of a part or area you want to texture seperately later on. It also helps to give your new material a color so you know that a particular face or part has been correctly assigned. It will be much easier to see. As far as a UV mapping tut- I would do a seach under UV mapping in the Wings forum. HTH Dan

Sorry for the confusion amlan70. The picture I showed is from Wings3D not Bryce. A lot of people here in the Bryce forum also use Wings, so I tried to answer Darkness_02 here. Next time there is a question about Wings, I will ask the person to join me in the Wings forum. There is no true UV mapping mode in Bryce like there is in Wings, but there are several different materials mapping modes that will usually help you to get the material to cover the model the way you want. Don't ever be afraid to ask questions here. The Forum is full of helpful people. Dan

Hi Bryster! Are you using UVMapper classic, or pro? If so, did you save the model out of the program with the map you generated, under the same name? looks like you used "planar" mapping.

Danamo: Pro! I imported the model into Bryce and tried adding the map as a texture .......There's several 'mapping' choices in Pro...I used 'box'......

But, did you save your UV mapped model out of UVMapper Pro?

Some folks who are new to the app will save the map they just made, but forget to save the model too.(I did this too,lol) You couldn't apply the map over your original obj model 'cause it wouldn't wrap right.

BTW, I'm not quite sure what that is a model of, but it looks kinda' like a pair of pants...square pants. Am I on to something here? At any rate, UVDan will be along soon I hope. He's the expert at this stuff.
