Thanks for your comments. Here's the optional puffy version. The link will take you to a Quick-Step guide to modeling this chair.Message edited on: 02/12/2006 15:39

Nice, altho you might want to try some less contemporary combinations. I would think for bump/displacement some graininess maybe similiar to cellular or some leather maps(real fine holes)It is skin so you should have lots of practice :)Looks like you want to sit in it.

Mark I am astounded by Carraras texturing principles. Putting a texture in the shininess channel--blow me down! I have been going through the texturing in the manual, slowly, again, and no doubt a moderately small clear explanation of it's workings would be very welcome. We regularly get wonderful solutions and follow by rote stuff but without the whys and wherefores involved.

I did use Athena's skin on the cushions. It no longer looked like something I'd want to sit in or own though. But I will try using a mixer with the shine. I'm trying to avoid making the chair look like it was dipped in shoe polish.

Looks good. I don't know what to say about a skin chair..except gross :). I am sure cows feel that way. Actually, Mark has a good point. Once you understand what shininess(also called glossiness) is for then it makes sense to use that kind a shader there, ties in well w/ color/diffuse channel.Same of all the channels..there are usually so many ways to go about something. It's really worth it to just experiment with what you can do in all the channels. Learning how to make the proper maps for each makes the textures really come alive.I am really glad to see that carrara's texturing support is very much on par w/ some much higher end packages.I can see why people like zbrush so much and using it w/ carrara also.
