Subject: Monthly Challenge #1 "Liquid motions"

Heres my first entry. Not as grand a waterfall as the one Simon posted. Just a shot of the stream that runs through our backyard. And the flowing water would be representing the "liguid motions", while the ice could represent the opposite i guess....bla bla... #:oP

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Wow now that is a really spectacular image Andreas. You have 3 forms of water there: snow, ice and liquid. I just love the shapes and the movement from the flowing water through to the curvy ice and angular snow flakes.

Wow aren't you guys speedy?! Gorgeous gorgeous shot Gommie.I love how the snow looks like little tiny white flowers.The textures and the colors are so wonderful,and the compo perfect. I hope you are planning to put this beauty in your gallery!

Not as good is so subjective, no snow or ice where I was lol, it was cold enough though lol Lovely textures and colours in the flow, super shot.

Lovely icy image. The soft motion of the water contrasted with the sharp detail and textures is awsome! Unbelievable. I was gonna be the first to comment...got distracted, finished commenting about 1/2 hour later...and look at all the feedback! =]

Well...thats actually what i was going for Marlene. If i wanted to flirt with Kort i would have quoted something from LOTR or The Silmarillion....had either one of us had the stamina to finish it, LOL. #:O)

Very beautiful images Zacko. Did you use some type of density filter or such? I did a little experimentation and coudn't slow the shutter speed enough to get this effect. Help!

What camera have you got Fuzzy? Not knowing that the best I can offer as advice for now, is that if you are getting too much light, shoot early morning or late afternoon. Use a polarizer and or ND filters to further reduce the light. if your camera hasnt got a real slow shutter, it is more difficult to get the effect, one thing that you can do, is choose a water scene with fast flowing water, a shutter of 1/15 may be slow enough in the right conditions.

OK...you live in Sweeedeeen..one advantage to have such nature somewhere in the vicinity. Second...who can enter now! These are just lovely and appreciated.. Yikes, go bow my head somewhere. No ice or snow here...mountains some miles away..oh well, will come up with something. Tom.

LP, I got a Nikon D70s, so I'm sure its not the camera (which leaves me as the culprit). I never thought of using the polarizer filter I have. I guess I had my mind set on it being used for reflections. As for the time of day, it definitely was noonish, so the light was the strongest. Thanks for the tips. I'll be ready for the next trip for sure!

LOL@Dough. Thanks guys. @ Fuzzy....yes i used a ND-filter. ND4 i think....and then i also activated the pre-built-in-filter on my camera. Good luck. #:O)
