Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 6:51 am)
The only thing I ever got to work was exporting from Poser as Wavefront .OBJ and importing into Max using the HABWare plugins. And then a lot of material fixing. I only had Max 4.2 at the time, with only the default scanline renderer. Poser 5 and 6 did a better rendering job than the Max 4.2 scanline renderer. Maybe only due to the fact that I haven't mastered lighting and materials in Max...

I downloaded the Habware plugin, and exported the file as an obj, but when I took into max there was nothing there ??? Ach - I thought that pro pack was something recent, ah well that idea goes out the window. Are you getting sick of answering all my newb questions yet little dragon ? ;-) Thinking I might just have to splash the cash and give the old credit card a bashing at get the Reiss Studio software... On a different subject, this forum has been the most helpful and friendly of all the poser forums Ive used - nice to see for a change. Chris
You'll have to scale up by a factor of 250 when importing into Max. Poser .OBJs are extremely small.

Poser generates a .mtl file when you export as .obj. If you load the .mtl file as well when importing the .obj, the textures transfer. You'll have to add the location of the textures to the Max texture paths, though.

I was on e-frontier.com and downloaded the 3D Studio Max R2.5, 3.x, 4.x Plug-in so I could take my poser files into max to add backgrounds. Now my college tutor told me it should work with Poser 6 and 3DS Max 5.1 as he has this setup running at home. When I loaded up max, I get the following error - Loading DLLS - failed to initialize. Further reading of the e-frontier site says that It requires Pro Pack Service Release 2 or 3 but is provided separately for easier download and downloads at a later time. Ive never heard of the pro pack, is this a free add on for poser or something that needs to be purchased on its own ? If I cant take my character in max, is there a way to change the horrible background grey colour to a jpeg/png format to give the poser characters and the scene more depth ?? Thanks Chris
