Subject: CS2 & Bridge

I'm wondering if others have been experiencing a severe memory drag when running Adobe Bridge? My original laptop, a 1.7Ghhz, 1GB RAM began to have problems after I upgraded to Adobe CS2, primarily when I used Bridge. Programs would lock up, and the system slowed down significantly. Last Tuesday I received my solution to the problem. A new 2.6Ghz, 2GB RAM fully maxed out graphics laptop. I paid $5,400 for this and having reinstalled Adobe CS2, have the same problems when Bridge is run. I can run and render in Poser 6 & Lightwave 8.5 like never before... but now my Adobe apps give me problems. Have others experienced a slower system when Bridge is run? Have there been any problems having Bridge, Photoshop, and any webpublishing software like Dreamweaver open simultaneously? What type of solutions might fix my problem (other than stop using Bridge)? Thanks, Steve

You should check out the Bridge forum on the Adobe site, as a lot of people have had issues with it. Do you have the update for Bridge installed, (which can make a big difference)? One thing I have found is, you **have** to let Bridge completely create its cache file for each folder containing the images you use. If I open another program during this process, I will get the slowdowns or lockups. It may take awhile (depending on the number and size) but once all images are in the cache file, Bridge should run a lot better for you. Chuck (SWAMP)

I can only speak for myself. I rarely use Bridge, since, like you, I noticed a severe slowdown, and it doesn't really help me much, anyway. Yes, it DOES run in the background, but it takes an inordinate amount of resource power that I could better use when running very large files... upwards of 6 gig.
Anything that's not necessary, should be shut down... this is a given, when you deal with system intensive graphics.. some things may be convenient, but would it be MORE convenient to finish sooner?
As far as problems?... the only one I've run into, was slowing the sys. One thing you CAN do, if you're running XP, is to set the priorities for which gets higher priority... if they're BOTH set to normal, then CPU usage will have to divide it's "Attention" between them, since Bridge makes periodic calls, and uses more than a few threads, even when minimised. Lou.

Take that lag and double or triple it for Photoshop Elements 4. I downloaded the trial and uninstalled it the same day. The most sluggish thing i've run so far and it took forever to uninstall it. I have Photoshop CS and never upgraded to CS2. Forcing users to get high end computer just to run their software annoys me. I run 3d software that is runs faster.

I don't use bridge. I think it creates a thumbnail/metadata cache which hogs space on you're HD, and you're processor. I use iPhoto to organize and view my photos and open them in photoshop. :o)

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

There are better solutions to digital management then using bridge as it seems Adobe still hasn't made it robust enough for real-world usage. I don't even like using the "view thumbnails" function in Windows - instead i use iview (IrfanView) to quickly cycle through directories of digital assets to find what i'm looking for...

count me as a non-user too

I use a G5 dual Mac with lots of RAM, Bridge is more or less becoming the centre of my workflow. When I am doing other things, I let it run it's caching stuff on my collections of textures and stuff. Especially the previewing of Illustrator and InDesign files and Pdf's is precisely what I need for my daily workflow. iPhoto soes not do that.
