i want to download .MAX models how do i get them into bryce or is there a free program that can convert them thanks

if this is 3ds file (FileName.3ds) you can import them. enter to the File (on the top menu) => Import. select the 3ds file and open them.

no the file name is .max not 3ds

.max is 3dsmax native file format you'll prolly need a copy of 3dsmax to export it to something else as .max format includes all kinds of max native settings and data.

I think you can download a trial copy of 3dsmax, but it's only good for what, 30 days? could do it that way, but I'd accumulate a few .max files for I did it..;)

Hhhhh, good link =) you can't use *.max becouse this not only model. This file have the model with textures, spots arond them, and cammers. (I chek some files) but you can download and use models, with have the file name, ob and 3ds. enjoy, and good luck )

I am unable to point you to a source right now but if you can find a program called Deep Exploration and download it, you will find that it uses a plugin called 3ds Max DCOM that you must have access to, usually by also having 3ds Max, to load a MAX scene or file.With Deep Exploration you can then save it out to a number of different formats including Cob, 3ds, LWO, Obj, etc. that can be loaded into Bryce. If you only use 3ds Max it wants to only save into its own Max format. Hope I didn't confuse you, here.

Max has a baby brother called gMax which may be able to do this - I'm not sure of cost though.

Save your models in .obj format and import those into Bryce. I use max and have found this the easiest way. The other formats have a nasty habit of getting chewed up for some reason.

3ds works fine as long as you remember the limitations - max 64k polys per mesh, text filenames in 8.3 format reset all xForms before export.

gmax is a free download (or was, last time I checked). I've never actually used it, but hey, it's free..so what's the harm?..;)
