Hello. Last night I tried to make a water splash/water drop photo like some I've seen around here by the likes of Artists Richard, Zacko, and other photographers around here. I ended up with more of a water blob. I set my timer on my tripod mounted camera w/100 mm macro to 2 sec. delay and started pouring water from a drinking bottle into a pot of water while holding a wireless flash in my other hand. lol. There must be a better way to do this. I was hoping someone would be kind enough to explain this to me. Have a good day. Peace/Jeff :-)

Thanks gradient, I will checkout that Exif viewer...and thanks for that flash info LRDAZE. I appreciate it. I see you did some hand held shots. I want to try some close up macro shots but for that a tripod is almost necessary. I don't think my tripod reaches that high! hmmmm I must build a platform or something.

Whenever i shoot drops i put my camera in burst mode. Mine can take 3 shots per second. Then i always lock my focus where i predict the drop to splash. I either use the built-in flash or i set up my two 500W lamps...although they have a tendency to get pretty damn hot! Hope this helps even a little. #:O)

I did my first drop photo about a week ago with advice from Zacko, who has got this wired. I shot mine in the sink also, used a big pot, preferable black inside to keep the glare down. You really must use a tripod and set your ISO pretty high, 800 or more so your shutter speed is at it's fastest. I used a flash which really didn't blow out the highlights. I propped the pot up in the sink using a small stool so I could try and shoot straight across the pot instead of straight down. Then I let the faucet drip at a steady rate, not too fast as it disturbs the water and you won't get nice circles in the water. I locked focus on the impact area, then counted in my head as the water dripped and tried to time it. Instead of blasting away I find that timing it gives me better results and more usable images. Sure, you will get a bunch of crap also, but it's not an exact science this way, just a way to get some shots in. Hope this helps..Dave~

What was I thinking. Of course my tripod reached that high! :-) Unfortunatelly I think I have a defective faucet. I took a few hundred shots the other night and still don't have this down. I experimented w/various shutter speeds and ended up setting it to the fastest. I am handholding a wireless flash for light. I should try using a steady light source. I bet my 12v halogen bike light or my big plant grow and show would work....

Oh...i realise now that it doesnt have a falling drop in it....but the original had though...i cloned it out. #:O)

Now your just showing off buddy..Damn that's nice...creative idea and excecution....don't make me try it...of course I don't know where I would get an ice sickle in Hawaii...Very kewl effect! Aloha
