There is no particular order in ranking as they are picked from beginning to end of week.
There is now a link in the Photo Gallery for easier location.

Selections for Mar19-26/2006

Enjoy

soulofharmony ( ) posted Mon, 27 March 2006 at 3:36 PM

well as much as l appreciate lwitg !!! and the work that goes behind the selection.. the composition choosen out of my gallery selected was technically my poorest, the beak on the duck sub-merged was out of focus, and other technical faults, call it arrogant if you wish but orginally just uploaded for fun !!! l,d also stated on a forum thread..the dislike of that image, a few days previous.. another reason already been select twice this month lwitg, and felt the 3rd was unreasonable and unfair to other members of the photography gallery, who rarely get the opportunity feature.. apologizes if this has inconvenienced doug and realise never been selected again. hope this explains.. by the way... some exceptional compositions choosen.. and thank you for the work thats placed into lwitg :)

The first time that i was chosen for lwitg, i was extremely humbled and it still this for me very flattering. Usually at the end of the week i try to troll the gallerys for images that catch my eye. We have very different tastes, but thankyou for this wonderful array of works that perhaps i would have passed or missed (i say this without an once of disrepect) otherwise. Thankyou very much.

Thanks for adding my photo work. I think its a priviledge to be added with such wonderful photographers. Have great week and awesome work as always to moderator and co.:)

LostPatrol ( ) posted Mon, 27 March 2006 at 8:03 PM

Its more like last week in the ego stokers club these days. Sorry but IMO this has gone the same way as the stupid "hot 20" and the ridiculous "vote" trading that goes on. So there you have it a classic LP tell it how it is controversial post. (Not spat my dummy out for a while eh!) I tire of the RR politics, which is probably apparent in my lack of recent uploads. RR is IMO a place for artists to post their work, its not a competition.

The Truth is Out There

DJB ( ) posted Mon, 27 March 2006 at 8:52 PM

Gee Simon...you should read more. Instead of spewing off about something, go back and find out what this whole thing is and always was. It has nothing to do woth hot20. Has nothing to do with who is good and who is not. It's to place in here for members to have a quick look at what went on last week. It has also made it known to a lot of members that the forums are here. When Cindy came up with the idea to send an IM out to members telling them thier image was in...we got terrific feedback on it. New people started reading the forums. I am sure that comments like yours and above will have them do an about face and stay away though. Your comment is not appreciated, and totally uncalled for.

gradient ( ) posted Mon, 27 March 2006 at 9:28 PM

I don't upload many photos to this gallery...mainly for two reasons, 1) most of mine aren't gallery worthy and 2) I don't have the spare time. I would love to view every single upload here AND in the Terragen gallery...but I would be spending most of my day here if I did( I'm also on dial-up). My point is...I don't have any images here so I don't have a vested interest here in doing any a$$ kissing! For me the LWITG is a perfect opportunity to catch up on some of the weeks gems...they are not the Hot 20(but that's another issue itself), they are selected by the Mods/coords... so be it!. Take it just as it is...someone's selection...that doesn't mean you have to like every single image. Not only does it take time to select these images, it also takes time to put together the presentation package....and for that we should be thanking Doug, Cynlee, Danob! If you don't like the LWITG concept...it's pretty simple...DON'T look at it!

L8RDAZE ( ) posted Mon, 27 March 2006 at 10:28 PM

I'm going to play devils advocate here, so please bear with me. Alot of members do find the LWitG to be a value to them. There's no denying this. As stated in a previous thread, the LWitG is not a contest. Its a summary of the past week, the cliff notes... an overview. Ok, so WHAT IF it IS perceived differently and some members DO get the wrong idea behind the LWitG? What then? You can't fault them for this. Most I don't feel would voice their opinion, perhaps they don't want to make "waves" or fear reprisal. One thing is you can't please everybody, but you can change perception, maybe its time to revise how images are selected. A simple criteria would be to NOT have an artist appear 2 weeks in a row. This would give others a chance to be spotlighted, balance it out more and also bring more people to the forum (instead of those that hang here already.) I apologize if my comments here ruffle any feathers. Its not my intention. I've been on both sides of the fence here and I feel I have some unique insight on this. I also can put myself in other peoples shoes and see it from their view, which we all should do sometimes. Thx for your time. Joe

You opinions are always welcome Joe. You have contributed a lot to this site. Appreciated. How come no one ever complained when Misha did this. He used to put up to 3 images from one member one week sometimes. I've had many recent messages telling me to keep this and to not let the negative comments get me down.

Georgy ( ) posted Tue, 28 March 2006 at 1:04 AM

When one of my favorite teachers Warren King had the class judge on a point system on each others work, I had an entirely different outlook about being in the other shoe. It is not always or can be fair even when just for fun. It was very difficult to do. I never took anything to heart after that. Someone always felt that an image got overlooked. Yep don't let the negative get you down. I thank you all very much for another beautifully executed collage of some wonderful images I am excited to see. My most humble appreciation. And thank you to the team. Georgia

Margana ( ) posted Tue, 28 March 2006 at 2:37 AM

I always enjoy LWitG.It gives me the opportunity to see work that I might have missed, and I appreciate that. I do not expect it to be the only fine images at RR,or the BEST of RR...just a sampling of some wonderful work. That's all. It is unfortunate, but there will always be people who are unhappy or feel slighted,in any given community. And while they are perfectly justified in their right to complain, like Simon,I too, grow weary, but it is the grand-standing,and general malaise of late,I grow weary of...not the Hot20,(I honestly don't care),and certainly not this. This is supposed to be fun!Isn't that why we are all here?Isn't that what it's all about? I suppose Doug, you could ask if there are any artists who wish their work removed from all future consideration,to submit such a request in writing... As to the rest of it,I think you do a very fine job. Just my two cents.

my reply was to geert and explaining the reason why.. the 4th image was deleted, and my deletion was done discreetly without fuss, but as it was pointed out on this thread, felt an explanation was needed, but his post to this thread seemed to have been deleted...but also stated how much lwitg was appreciated and all the work that goes behind, time the selection and placing together.., the composition at hand was infact going to be deleted by me reguardless or not.. whether featured in lwitg !!!! and also apologized for the inconvinience.. just felt from the very beginning to upload the composition was incorrect and spoilt a building portfolio...but as l'd already been selected twice this month.. also felt it was unfair to others.. because in the past people have complained doug shows favoritism in his selection.. and of course we know that to be untrue...and lm sure doug will understand.

yes its about fun .. but also its about art, photography and learning those skills.. and sharing in the freedom of each others expressions and supporting growth and development in those fields .. helping build confidence in those lacking, and those of different levels etc..also meeting like minded artist/photographers from various parts of the world...
and having respect for each other and others works and and concepts...being of our taste or not.. !!!..

now again l apologize to doug... of whom l know to be fair and understanding..and also appreciate my photography and others within the gallery...!!!!!...

And sorry if it was stated and mis read in any other form.....

Well I just add my tuppence worth and again Joe I appreciate your points as Doug has said.. A lot of work is done here on members behalf and we have a forum to air views.. This week in the Gallery has always been for me one of the best features we have had sonce Misha started it, and Doug has done a lot to bring his Web skills to make it an attractive visual spectacle as well.. This was the first week I have helped Doug to select the picks, and for me it is not about showing the most wonderful images in the world but aslo to help and encourage as well as to highlight work that may have been missed or deserving of more comments.. It was never intended to stroke anybodies ego or for a place for the hard working staff memebers to show any form of favouritism, or a contest of any description.. Some other photographic galleries do have along with a Staff choice a members choice where what may be considered the best of the best can be shown in another Thread.. The Hot20 for many has never been very good at that and this is widely agreed throughout the whole of Rosity If you want to make a contribution do so in the forum, and IMHO to imply that any image is unworthy of a staff pick is insensitive to the people who are trying their best.. Nothing is perfect so lets please just try and have fun without having to lower any particular standard.. In my own view people dont always get time to comment or view everything and if you do have time an honest view or image that stands out for any reason is worth spending time to do.. It helps everybody to progress or improve regardless we have a wide range of skills on show here from Professionals to beginners..

I think you all aired pretty much everything there is to say about this....but what the heck, im gonna throw in my 1 euro anyway. If i were Doug (or Danny for that matter) i would scrap this entire feature all together. Its quite obvious that some people wont ever appriciate it. Every week they whine, bitch and moan about it. And when they do so, when they question Dannys and Dougs choices, they only make the people being picked feel unworthy and bad. Do any of you that complain realise the amount of time and effort being put into this? Not since Cindy quit as a moderator has i seen one single LWitG that hasnt had a bunch of complaints in them. Im sorry if im not as elegant in my approach as others, but im sooo sick of all the drama thats been taking place here lately. This is exactly the reason why im not active in the forum anymore. In conclusion....im impressed with all the hard work the moderators and co-ordinators of this place puts in every single day, with hardly anything to show for it. Keep up the great job ya hear.

I am so thrilled to be again this week among such an elite gallery of photograhs. I remember what my teacher in school used to tell us. 'The people who complain most are the ones who contribute the least to the success of an endeavour'. If only one stops to think of the enormous savvy and patience that goes into putting such a wekly selection together, then one would only praise and acknowledge those who have done it. I salute the effort of Doug and Danny..

Well...

I appreciated being selected (I just made time for reading this as I judged there was some drama involved - albeit minor) and my image that got selected has certainly had a lot more viewers since it was selected (which I also am happy about). I even didn't know this feature was here until I was selected. Was it my favorite image (of mine or others) that was selected? That doesn't necessarily matter as mine's only one voice. Anyway, thanks for putting the selections together, thanks for everyone for looking , and thanks for any constructive criticism.

Sorry you had to be indoctrinated into this feature via such a tumultuous thread...but glad to see your work recognized Vivian! ;]
