It also may be that the .obj you are importing has transparency turned all the way up. I've run into this when the .obj was created by someone other than myself, has a texture map applied, and has some transparency involved in the map. Load the .obj then look at the materials settings. Set transparency to 0 and see if your object shows up.
On the botton of your screen shot you can see a row of object primatives, next to that a sqaure with three colors in it and next to that a grey down arrow. Clicking on the grey down arrow allows you the option to select meshes or groups that are in the scene. If your .obj is grouped I would look under groups first...if the .obj is truly loaded its name will appear in the list. If it doesn't I would look under meshes...again if it is truly loaded the name should appear. When you click on the name to select the object you will get the items you show circled as #2 whether the object is visible in the scene or not.
In addition to what Claymor said, if you successfully import an obj, you should see the menu letters (A, M, E) as well as the rest on the screen (even if the object is not in view. Try clicking on the "A" to get an idea of the coordinates of the object. Don't click on the screen or another object or you will have to locate the object as Claymor mentioned. Another thing you can do if you import and can't see the object is to try one of the other views, like front, right, top, etc. Without deselecting the import, select one of these other views and then click on the "+" or "-" selectors. This should center to object, giving you a chance to at least see it. Hope this helps some.
Yup - the object being very tiny sometimes happens when I import Wings created models.

Hi All, I am an Intermediate in Bryce 5.5. I went to a friends house the other day who uses Bryce 5.5.Tried that out. Both He & me are facing the same problem.Whenever I try to import any .OBJ file( I mostly use that format for Bryce Imports), i dont knowwhere does it go !!Although I can see Bryce reads it and imports .But importing it becomes invisible and there isnt any sign of it .Whereas this isnt the case in Bryce 5.It imports good. Thus to avoid this problem he imports in Bryce 5 saves the file as *.br5 and then opens it in Bryce 5.5. Why is this . Can someone help ???
