Subject: .PMD file - what are these used for?

MaterialForge ( ) posted Thu, 23 March 2006 at 3:20 PM ยท edited Sun, 23 February 2025 at 2:31 PM

Ok, I initially thought that a .PMD was a PageMaker document; I figured it was the rendered image. However, I was never able to open them so I just chose Export>Image after rendering to save a .PSD. Never really gave the the .PMDs another thought until last night when I loaded a file after moving it to another drive (without the .pmd) and it asked for the missing file. I chose to ignore it, and when the scene came up the facial parameters were not set, and trying to change the parameter dials gave no result (Victoria2, using the Yell dial, for instance); the figure remained unchanged. So am I correct in assuming the .PMD stores parameter dial settings?

PMD files store the morph deltas (i.e. how much each point moves) in binary form rather than being stored in the figures CR2 in text form.

If you want your morph data back inside the CR2/PP2/whatever, you can turn off the external binary morph option in preferences. This is a new thing in Poser 6, and it's on by default.

Just to clarify a little ".PMD" = "Poser Morph Deltas". An external file containing, errm - Morph deltas... Sorry, Just explaining the "acronym". It was probably obvious from the above 2 posts, but sometimes I get pedantic.... Cheers Diolma

I hate .pmd 's.... they piss me off! that pmd thingie is reason why we have to still create some products in Poser 5 and not in Poser 6. But yes they do contain the morph information...wich is not compatible in POSER 5.

You don't have to create a product in Poser 5 for it to be compatible with Poser 5 - just turn off the binary morph option. I have mine turned off all the time. I don't mind the larger files, and it makes editing a CR2 easier.

Hmmm, EnglishBob, I kinda think I might like this idea too. Your method I mean. Is there some really good reason to NOT do things this way, I mean, other then the little bit larger file sizes? I have gobs and gobs of HD space, so that doesn't bother me. I'm finally having the time to get back into Poser since I first bought a couple months back and am now rethinking all of my settings and such. Anyway, thanx............md :)
