Subject: App for creating Poser props figures??

alphauser51 ( ) posted Sat, 08 April 2006 at 3:27 PM · edited Sun, 22 September 2024 at 10:22 PM

Is there an application, or utility that does a better job of creating posable props and figures than Posers setup room.? It really sucks, is difficult to use, and is hard to get consistent results with it. Ideally a plugin for 3d max that you could export a 3d model mapped, textured, with joints and limits already done and just imort that into Poser. Or a stand alone app, anything.. Any info or feedback appreciated....

ToolBox for Poser, over at DAZ

Never heard much at all about that utility...

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Have you tried it? is it easier and more productive to use than Posers Setup room??

I use the old fashioned hierarchy (.phi) file approach (because I hate the set up room and find it hard to get good result with). A lot of us that were making figures before the set-up room still use that approach. You need Roy Riggs's PHI Builder, which a google search will find for you. It's free. You create a .phi file, tell Poser to convert the hierarchy file, then use the joint editor to fine tune the joint parameters.

I like Ajax's method, personally...

I agree, I also still use Ajax's approach. Sharen

Thanks for all the input. I contacted the maker of toolbox and he sent me a link for a demo of toolbox 2. He indicated that that it was a lot easier to use than Posers setup room. Ill give it a whirl..

Why not go whole hog and make your own? here's 2 options
what about this?
http://www.wings3d.com
or this?
http://www.blender.org
each can create .obj models, set areas for texturing, or even UVmap them (well Wings can, I haven't drilled far enough into Blender to know..;) and they're both free..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Well, I use the set-up room method. I find the results to be very consistent. I also use the PHI method to get external geometry for large models. I followed Dr. Geep's Setup room tut, and that was all I needed to get up and running with that.
