Lol, Drac has been reading Dale Carnegie's lesser known book-"How to Lose Friends and Alienate People". Zbrush is a great app obviously, but I've been watching some mind-blowing demos of the upcoming Hexagon2 and it seems more in line with my right-brain tendencies.

vivafluff is easy to explain.

  1. fluff was an alternate word in a forum that had a bad language block on for the f word. as in, fluff you, man!

  2. viva, as in yay for.

= viva+fluff

thanks,

Oh, man drac...Meats is an amazing artist and ZBrush simply freaking rocks!!!!!!!

My sympathies for you not being familiar with him and/or ZBrush, lol. I mean he only worked on Hellboy and Sky Capt & the World of Tomorrow...rofl. I would KILL to be able to afford the ZBrush class he teaches at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects.

Well...I myself haven't really posted up my ZBrush work as I am not satisfied with it. That just comes from now being SO familiar with Bryce, I kinda feel like my ZB work needs to absolutely kick butt before I show it. I know, I know...kinda stupid.

bikermouse ( ) posted Wed, 19 April 2006 at 4:05 AM

Agent Smith,
I don't think you have much to worry about as far as posting Rrenders in ZBrush
goes - most here are in awe of your Bryce work - It's only a matter of time before you awe  the ZB community as well.

As I recall, Drac didn't like truespace much either.

I'm considering getting either C5, Zbrush or  Silo. I like the idea of
painting displacements on an object (I'm pretty sure Carrara doesn't do this.)
right now I'm looking at the learning version of Silo. There's a free modeler that
does this I've toyed with a little that kenmo on the 3dmodeling forum provided a link to that does displacements - so with my participles dangling and my phaser set to stun, I'm ready - sorta. kinda. almost.
BTW: Is there a new demo for ZBrush I could check out?

TJ, you might want to check the upcoming Modo 201. Some amazing stuff in there. Personally, the ability to draw wireframe on the mesh and so interactively lower the number of polys seems incredible. Unfortunately, a friend showed it to me, but I can't find it now at the site. Otherwise, they've got texture layers and painting in the program, with Bump map painting, micropolygon displacement with blending of different UV maps and so on. That renders we had here shortly before the php conversion are just a tiny tip of the iceberg.

Attached Link: "ZBrush head displacement test"

Neil Young once wrote and sang  a song-"Rust Never Sleeps", and apparently AS doesn't either, lol.

@Bikermouse- Carrara5 doesn't paint displacement maps at the present time, but it sure as heck supports them natively! Check out a new post by SHONNER in the Carrara Forum- "ZBrush head displacement test"! It is a real "eye-opener"! You also might want to check out Hexagon2 due out later this month. It has excellent modeling tools, does displacement painting, unwraps UVmaps, and has terrific built-in texture engine. I'm dying to play with the Demo.

"Meats Meyers in RenderGods;  and we STILL don't know when it's coming out, or what's new"

-Huh? Are you trying to telepath to us that you are talking about ZBrush 2.5? Lol...

I met with the Pixologic corporate types last Thursday (13th), and no concrete date is being given. But, we all know what ZB 2.5 does, it's been all been shown online and demo-ed live during the last Siggraph. I watched that presentation probably a dozen times. ;o)

LOL - that's neat - I wondered if you'd recieved that telepathic message, AS.

"...it's been all been shown online and demo-ed live during the last Siggraph."

I think they're hiding something to be honest - and I think I know what.

Look how late it's arriving, look what anouncement appeared (Hexagon2), and look at a certain comment in that "Path to 2.5" thread by one of the official guys for ZBrush - and I think it all falls into place.

I'm hoping they've seen Hexagon2 and though to themselves "WTF - this is a GREAT poly/nurbs modeler AND it will soon be capable of ZBrush style modeling as well".  And so their wonderful minds are devising a poly/nubs modeling solution into ZBrush2.5 - so that they can keep clear of the competition.

An official in that thread said something like "What we're going to give you will be REVOLUTIONARY"

I can't wait - ZBrush rules as is, so...

I really hope they give it a good poly/nurbs facility.

Len.

Uhm...well, I actually do know of one attribute that Pixologic wants ZB 2.5 to do that I did not see shown anywhere. It's not what you are talking about, but...I also would not doubt what you are saying, in that they may be doing a little more adding on to ZB 2.5 as to keep up with the competition that is coming up on them. ;o)

Man, I missed the whole thing. Odds are I was logged in too, but away from the compy...

I think drac's point wasn't that Z-brush was bad, but more of a "I'm still making payments towards that Chevy, so although that Porche is nice...  I think it'll just have to wait." kinda thing. (The same reason why I'm Wingsin' along and not fiddling with Hexagon or Modo.)

I suppose the guy could hang around pitching something to us, but would that honestly be a good use of his time?
Maybe drac did him a favor.

However, I still would like to pick the guy's brain. Too bad I missed out.

Erlik,The subdivision modeling site was talking about modo positively - I'll check it out if I can ever get past their infernal logon process - might be the browser upgrades last week but if not it doesn't say much for the program if they mess up a simple thing like  the logon process - hopefully the guys doing their website aren't the same ones that do the program code.   I'll try not to let the webbies discourage me from the program. Thanks!

Hexagon: too many negs on our 3d modeling forum - I'll skip that one at least until the next go-round .

danamo,Carrara:  I've been lurking on our forum there and have C2.1. not too happy with it; thinking that the upgrades might be better . . ..  I know they don't paint displacement maps. That is the thing right now. Shonner is one of the good guys - I'll chech that out, thanks!

AS; dld the ZB demo but haven't installed it yet! Looking forward to it!
