WarriorDL, we have something in common. I also use both AOL and Earthlink. Believe it or not, Earthlink is far worse IMO. At least if I have a problem with AOL I have usually been able to get a human being to talk to. At Earthlink? Forget it. I do not believe humans exist at Earthlink. I am convinced that it is simply an alien front to render the Internet completely useless as a communication medium. I have to have a second provider as a backup just in case the first goes down. AOL was supposed to be the backup. After trying four ISPs and now Earthlink, it has turned out differently. Actually, I think a lot of the crap AOL gets is from those jealous of someone, Steve Case in this matter, who has been able to succeed with their dream. It started out as a simple little BBS. Grew into Q-Link for the old C-64 and has mushroomed into one of the most powerful media giants in the world. Not bad. Not bad at all. I have my complaints with AOL. But, ya know, when I sit and look at it I realize that, overall, it does a pretty good job when compared to the competition... but I am still looking for that reliable backup. ;-)

You want a reliable alternative, get DSL or Cable... Faster, always on... usually pretty reliable... I've had a Cable Modem for 3 years and have never once regretted my choice.

ummmmm.....i had Earthlink for quite a while....the server i connected to was always up....i always got the max connection rate (52000-54000), i talked to a person or two at Earthlink in my time with them..... ;) the only reason i dropped them is because DSL became available in my area, and i've been provided a free dial-up connection to use while i wait for my modem to arrive.....just thought i'd toss out an opposing opinion due to the lack of one ;)

I think that with ANY ISP, you'll find two horror stories for every one satisfied customer. Mindspring used to get the highest "ratings" because they reversed that ration (one horror story per two satisfied customers)... They all have good and bad points. My websites are on AOL, as are most of my friends (the ones I knew BEFORE I found this place, at least!) so I'll be sticking with them - even though AOL is where I ment my wife too... ;-)

Ditto on what DraX said ... Cable or DSL, with a STRONG recommendation for cable. Dollar per KB/s Cable destroys any type of DSL (ADSL, XDSL, whatever.) I have gotten download speeds of near 400KB/s .... that's the big "B" ... BYTES NOT bits! In other words one megabyte every 2.5 seconds approximately. Or for even more perspective, I can download a 20 MEG file in under a minute. Not bad for $39/month.

Finally the lines are in where I am and will be going to Dsl soon. Aol I will keep but it will be cheaper. Ron
