So here's a screen cap to show you what I see. Here's my hotmail and "Element Properties" is the box that opens when I right click on "Here" (drat the darned thing! Hate it, hate it!) This particular "Element Properties" box is too long to open sufficiently to copy the entire address, (the yelow end of the box just will NOT extend any more) plus copying the number circled in red no longer takes you to the thread when pasted into the correct position in the address bar in the renderosity tab indicated - we were told to do this to continue with tabbed browsing in Firefox - which is incredibly irritating, and I mean INCREDIBLY! but it is doable... or was.
but now we get a new thing, every now and then one of these blinkin messages - however you try to access it, either by pasting the number into the address bar (replacing the previous thread's number) or by hatefully clicking on "Here" - Firefox just totally freezes - so I have to ctrl/alt/delete to close the whole thing down and then I've got to start all over again.
(and we have other links throughout the forums that ARE capable of "Opening in New Tab" - why not the ebots???)
What with the bad colour, invisible IM's, No more tabbed browsing, tiny images in threads, and loads of other irritations that I can't think of just now cos my brain is going crazy, and now Firefox continually crashing all the time - I just think.... well I can't think any more... fed up.

Very few people are having problems with firefox crashing, and most of those who have had problems solved there's by downloading the most recent version. Turns out they thought they had the most recent security patches and didn't. As far as the "Element Properties", that has nothing to do with the eBots. That's a problem with Hotmail's system. Looking at that dialog box, that's not even the queries after the "showthread.php" that it's putting in there. Hotmail is doing something stupid to it. I would suggest emailing Hotmail support to solve this issue. They can better tell you how to mange it than I can. Remember, Hotmail was written 100% exclusively to work properly only for users of Internet Explorer. Microsoft never has (nor will it ever) care about users of FireFox. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about that.

Given that tabbed browsing worked well between Hotmail / Renderosity for Fran before the ebot changes were brought in, my bet is that it is the HTML formatted nature of the new ebots that is causing the problem.
I can't think of a good reason why forum reply notification ebots need to be formatted. Plain text worked perfectly before, with the relevant link easy to see for everyone.

Quote - Just a FYI - The current version of Firefox is 1.5.0.2. and it's adviseable to download it whether it solves this problem or not as there are some new security issues with older versions.
Oh no it isn't. It's not advisable for me AT ALLL. If I do that then I can no longer use the zoom button on my keyboard which is all that enables me to see the itsy-bitsy, tiny, minute, text that is used all over the internet for some evil reason. I had updated to the most recent version of Firefox but everything went pear-shaped from that moment on - until I removed it and reinstalled the nicer 1.0.7 that I'm using currently.
At least I can see!!!
So does this mean that either I can used tabbed browsing (by installing the most recent Firefox) but I won't then be able to see anything? Or I can see things, but I can't use tabbed browsing?
Because if that's the case then insert millions of very bad swear words here.

If you complain to Hotmail about things - nothing happens. I've tried it before.
And there was no problem when we had ebots from Rosity with the address visible in the ebot without the stupid "here" hiding it.
Okay so maybe everybody else totally loves the "here" but I think it's irritating and stupid.
And I don't understand what this sentence means "Looking at that dialog box, that's not even the queries after the "showthread.php" that it's putting in there."
And finally why can't the address (preferably without the irritating "Here") have "Open in New Tab" as an available option? Is that a Hotmail limitation, or at the Rosity end? I.E. is it cureable?

.
Oh just great. I buy a keyboard specifically because it has a zoom button - but I can't use if if I want to stay in Rosity. Right?
But changing Firefox affects every single internet site on the web, not just Rosity. I've been through that once, and it was hell - pure hell.
Okay okay. (calming down a bit) So... I'm thinking about this, and I have a question.
Is it possible to have two versions of Firefox running on the computer at once?
If you can, then I could use one for Rosity and one for everything else.
P.S. I tried the ctrl plus wheel - and it works, but it's not very useable as it's fast, and inacurate.
P.P.S. If I sound angry it's not at anyone, certainly not you - just at bl**dy life.

I doubt that it is possible to have two versions of Firefox at the same time, but not 100% sure.
For security reasons alone (important!), it is strongly advisable to use the latest stable release. There are often ways of changing default settings so that newer versions can match some of the viewing properties of older versions. It's possible that you might be able to assign your keyboard's zoom button to the Firefox text control.
Change is inevitable Fran. Some of it you can adapt to your needs, otherwise you must adapt to it. The more you know, and the more people you can get onside to help you, the more control you have and the better you can cope.
.
I had Firebird and Firefox both installed and workable at the same time, but I don't know about two versions of `fox.
I can't say I've ever had trouble updating Firefox -- you hardly notice the difference. And if you're going from IE, you can import all the IE favorites.
If you do update Firefox, update Java as well (delete the old one first).

well for me it just wasn't stable. How do you do that last bit? i.e. assign your keyboard's zoom button to the Firefox text control?
If that's possible I might be able to upgrade after all, and that may actually solve all the other problems.

Firebird is/was the early version of Firefox from Mozilla. I don't know if it's even still available :/
I kept it on the drive after first installing Firefox until I was happy that FF was going to be OK. I could launch either browser at the time. I have always found that FF updates install themselves invisibly, with all bookmarks intact.
I did have slowness, crash and hangup problems with websites containing Java applets until I updated Java (from Sun microsystems), then no more problems.
M.
Actually I'm having a firefox problem here as well (and only here) my browser will occasionally totally freeze in the forums or marketplace - then blink and come back. I'll look into the newest version to see if I have it but it's not happening elsewhere and not until the changes. In fact it doesn't happne in teh older sections of the site that are remaining.
I feel aneed to say - this is not a complaint as in general I like the changes overall, I just wish my browser would behave here.

I am currently using Safari. But the problems do not seem to be limited to Safari by any means. Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows load this site extremely slow. The forums freeze on all 3 browsers for me. It gets a bit irritating to have a fast FIOS connection and still not be able to surf this site. I

Lucky you. My Firefox freezes and DOESN'T come back - I have to Ctrl/Alt/Delete to escape and then reopen Firefox and start all over again. It usually happens every 3rd or 7th ebot...
But like you - this only happens here at Rosity.

I believe this is a Hotmail limitation (as IE doesn't have tabbed browsing to the best of my knowledge).
None of the links I click from a Hotmail email allow me to open in a new tab.
And I don't bother with the ebots since "sort by post" makes sure all the new messages stay on the first page where I can see them and know there's been a reply (despite how slow the forum is for me).

Quote - tamil, what version of OS X and safari are you using? I didn't know what FIOS was, so I did a google search and it seemed to indicate that "some FiOS features are not available on Mac OS", which is probably false (they always say that to avoid having to answer questions about it).
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.6. FIOS is high speed internet from Verizon, I have 15MB/2MB. The only thing that isn't available for Mac is the crappy MSN stuff. I wouldn't download that anyways, LOL
Sorry but this cannot be correct since I get ebots from Planet Bryce and they DO have the option to "Open in New Tab" - this is the reason why I am of the opinion that the fault in this lack of function MUST therefore belong with Renderosity. See Image*
Firmly and squarely!!
The CGTalk ebots ALSO have the addresses perfectly plainly visible - just like Renderosity used to.
So all these things are perfectly possible.

FireFox will allow you to attempt to open ANY link in a "new tab". However, if it's a link a script that forces a new window to open (as Hotmail does), it won't open in a new tab. That's just the way it works, unfortunately. Hotmail doesn't use a method of opening in a new window, it uses a method, which FireFox's "New Tab" feature cannot usurp. sNw

Only with the new Renderosity ebots, Nicholas. Hotmail opens into new tabs just fine with Fran's other ebots (apparently), and with the old Renderosity ones. It is the interaction of Hotmail with the new ebots that is the problem.
It's not that anything is at fault, there's just a new incompatibility.
.
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but for me (using Firefox 1.5.0.2) clicking a link with the middle mouse button (also my scroll wheel) opens the page in a new tab.

Quote - But changing Firefox affects every single internet site on the web, not just Rosity.
The free Opera browser lets you set these things per website. In Opera, the zoom is the number '0', and the zoom out is the number '9'. It will only affect the current tab. To the left of the 'google search' bar is also a pair of glasses. Clicking on the allows you to adjust some display options, one of which is a zoom field. Further under 'quick preferences' one of the choices is 'site preferences' and that will let you customize your experience with certain websites. Note, problems with fireFox seems to be an indicator that your computer is infected with the Win32.Polipos virus... So if you are having problems that are sure are not from your own misuse or misconfiguration, look into the various threads on that virus to see how you can go about detecting it.
