Subject: comments

I use Poser often but do not post.. not good enough. I was wondering why so few people are commenting on Poser posts. there are so many beautiful works and 50-150 may view but no time to leave a word or three. I know your comment will get booted out with only one word. I try to leave a few words and I look for posts with so many viewings and no comments specifically

is everybody that short on time?

They might not want to say "good picture" or "great picture" especially if others have already said the same thing.

It's an often asked question but I guess it's still a valid one.

Human nature, I would suggest.  There are so many images that people see them in an eyeblink and go "oh yeah" and move on.  If I commented on every pic I viewed I wouldn't have time for anything else.  As it is, I don't visit the galleries as often as I would like.

There are several artists whom I try to make a point of viewing and commenting on but that sometimes has to go by the board when time is pressing.

Another take is that sometimes, there really is nothing to say to a pic.

I do not feel any comments are usually sought in the galleries other than "Great!" so I don't comment unless it is to say "Great!" Quite frankly I am afraid to comment honestly, to comment on the good and the bad, and I think I am pretty diplomatic and constructive. I certainly would never discourage anyone. I taught art for many many years and I know how to give advise while staying positive, but I don't feel that this kind of feedback is desirable here. I have always favored the idea of a "serious criticism wanted" tag. I have not posted in the forum since sometime in 2000 I think because I don't see the reason if there isn't going to be serious criticism. I have some newer posts but they were just to show someone something in a less public space than this forum :)

I have a shortage of time, as it would be unfair to comment on only a few, when so many deserve a good critical review. hence I hope the poser users are posting their renders out of an enjoyment of their own work and a desire to share, and that they don't rely too heavily on the approval of their peers.

the comment text explicitly asks for helpful comments, and i only comment if i have something useful to say, and am fairly certain the poster is interested in constructive criticism. the second part is what kills most of my comments before they get written, because in general people don't seem interested in that, almost all comments are gushing, and critique gets often jumped on by the poster's friends. i wish there were a specific gallery or forum, or even just a flag for people who want to receive critiques. as it stands, i comment only if people specifically state that they want critiques in order to improve.

Just because people have viewed but haven't left a comment doesn't mean they didn't like the image, it simply means they looked and didn't leave a comment.

Not every image viewed warrants a comment.  Personally I only comment on images that strike me in a particular way IE: reminds me of something, something I felt stands out such as lighting or colours.  I like a number of images that I view, but I don't  comment on them all.

I feel that "constructive suggestions" are best handled through im's. that way no one sees it except the party posting. so called negative comments maybe taken the wrong way when it was not intention of the commenter. it never fails that harmless words can be construed the wrong way. I think that people that are not interested in recieving comments leave the option unchecked. I leave rankings unchecked because after so many comments it is irrevelent. I do appreciate other artists making comments. I feel it is a courstey let people know you did view and a few words never harms anything.   if nothing more than relating to the scene to a personal experience

What Renderosity should really do is get rid of the statement above the comment box  that says "Your helpful comments..."

The gallery is a "Show Off" place to display your finished art work.  If you're looking for constructive criticism while you are still working on it, post it here and ask for input.  The galleries aren't the place for that IMHO.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I for one welcome any comment, especially ones that will point out a flaw in my work or if I could have done something better by doing this or that. If I get them and try it and it looks better then great, I've "learnt" something which is good!

The comments that piss me off, whoever gets them are the ones that say "God this is crap" or such, not helpful at all!!

Injustice will be avenged.

If I like a image, I comment, sometimes its just "Great Scene" or similar, often I will add to the comment by pointing out what caught my eye in the first place. I like receiving comments, good or bad. It means to me that something about the image appealed to the viewer and that my images are not total crap.If I don't like an image I do not comment. Agree with the thefixer last statement, never received any like that myself. Have a great day.
